Von Parka TOP 50 REZENSENT
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Länge: 0:24 Minuten
The future of fantasy art is in good hands if we're to go by that's inside this book.

Authors Aly Fell and Duddlebug has done a terrific job at selecting the images. The quality of art is top notch. The art is printed gloriously huge, some across two pages. The book is organised by fantasy art subjects namely, warriors, ladies, beasts, faeries and fairy tales, landscapes, battles and fights, magic, orcs, goblins and other folk.

Artists from all over the world are selected. The variety of style is great across different mediums. Many of them are already established artists like Brom, Alex Horley, Jason Chan, Francis Tsai, Dan Dos Santos and many more. There are a lot of new talent featured and many are worth a lookout for. Jon Sullivan's dragons are really cool ' he did one on the cover. Ralph Horsley's are insanely detailed. Raymond Swanland has a nice painterly style that's better seen than described.

Each piece comes with a nice short commentary from the artist. Because there are so many artists, each only has a few illustrations featured. The good thing is the artists' websites are provided alongside the caption for further exploration.

Each artist only has a few illustrations featured giving a glimpse of their true talent. You can explore more of their art, like I did, with the websites provided on every page as well as on the artist directory at the back. Very nice.

Highly recommended to all fantasy art lovers and artists.

If you love fantasy art, this is for you! 7. Dezember 2009

The cover of The Future of Fantasy Art is what first caught my attention. The dragon, with wings unfurled amid dark stormy clouds, is masterfully painted by Jon Sullivan. But, the gorgeous art behind the cover is what kept my attention.

Meant as a companion to Fantasy Art Now: The Very Best in Contemporary Fantasy Art & Illustration, (published by Collins Design in 2007) The Future of Fantasy Art has a decidedly more masculine feel than Fantasy Art Now. Which is not surprising since it has only four female artists compared to more than ten in Fantasy Art Now. It also has a stronger horror element than FAN. Something else that I noticed, there is no nudity in The Future of Fantasy Art, a fact that I appreciate. The format of both books is the same: large images of the art with the artist's name and a brief description and quote by the artist. The two books compliment each other well.

I flatter myself by thinking I know the current fantasy art scene pretty well, but The Future of Fantasy art didn't fail to show me artists I hadn't come across before. A new favorite of mine is Patrick Jones. His painting, The Shadows Past on page 25, is eye catching with it's shiny armor and rich colors. Another discovery: the more whimsical art of Scott and Pat Gustafson. In a genre that can often be dark and intense, it is nice to see the lighter side these artists offer. And, it is always nice to see old favorites like Dan Dos Santos, Larry MacDougall, Anne Stokes, and Donato Giancola.

The only major flaw, in my opinion, is that if the art included in the book was limited to one submission per artist, there would be room for more artists to be included. But, the positive side to that: maybe there will be more editions to this enchanting series of fantasy art books. Which begs the question: With the titles Fantasy Art Now (vol 1 and 2) and The Future of Fantasy Art already used... what is next? Hopefully, someone more creative than myself can come up with a title that will follow these two logically.

I give this book a score of 4 out of 5.
I am very happy to own this collection of fantasy art. It certainly did not disappoint.
I rate it PG for fantasy violence and scary images

The Truth 24. April 2011

I rely on reviews for many of the products I purchase, so when I find a false review I feel it is important to correct it. The review for this book by Evripidou Maria starts out with a blatant lie. That review claims that 80% of the illustrations are the same as the book "Fantasy Art Now". I own both The Future of Fantasy Art and Fantasy Art Now. I have compared both books and could find no duplication of art between the books.

Originally, I held off buying this book based on that review. Later, I was able to view the book at Barnes & Noble, and couldn't see where that reviewer came up with their information. I have seen some of the same images from this book in the Spectrum books, but only a few.

There are many wonderful paintings in this book, most I have never seen anywhere else. If you like fantasy art I think you will enjoy this book. I really like the format of this book, as many of the images are larger than what you might see in Spectrum. All in all this is a great book at a reasonable price.
