Great introduction to the practice of mindfulness meditation! 19. November 2013
Von Sarah E. Everett - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I remember when Bill Moyers first interviewed Jon Kabat-Zinn and I have been interested in mindfulness meditation off and on ever since. Five months ago I lost my husband. I also have Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency or "inherited emphysema" and I am on oxygen 24/7. This past summer the stress from both became unbearable. So I bought the book. It is an extremely easy read and the author lulls you into the practice, little by little, from page one. I am now a convert and I plan to take a live course the beginning of next year. I highly recommend this book.

Stress-Free is the way to be 10. November 2014
Von Robert Sherman - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
One thing that most of us never realize is exactly how much stress can affect our bodies and our minds. We also never realize how much we can use our body and mind to combat stress. I have lived with stress for many, many years and I've just thought it was a part of living life. But, this book has changed the way I've thought about my own well-being. Stress is responsible for so many of the troubles, aches, and pains that we face during life, and it's important to get out of that "catastrophic" mindset to achieve a better understanding of life. I was never one for meditating before I got my hands on this book, but it certainly changed my mind. Mindfulness is such an important aspect of my life now that I am unsure how I lived without it beforehand.

Of course, while I love the mindfulness and meditation techniques provided in Full Catastrophe Living, I also enjoy a few all-natural treatments. I tried out Simple Natural Cures: Cheap & Effective Remedies for Everyday Common Ailments which is a book that lives up to its namesake. It's a simple exploration of several different ailments and numerous simple all-natural cures to counteract them. The cures range from herbs to "mind-body medication," and all of them really do work. If you find you can't will away a cold, just check out Simple Natural Cures. There is a plethora of treatments for a wide range of maladies, and I've found success with each and every one of them.

But, it all starts with the mindfulness I discovered by reading Full Catastrophe Living. If you constantly feel bogged down by your fast-paced life, then this is a book I'd certainly recommend. I know that my life has taken a drastic turn in the right direction and I am overjoyed about the results. Again, I just wish I had picked this book up earlier. I also wish I had picked up Simple Natural Cures earlier. I'm glad I have them now and I'm glad I'm living by the principles outlined in each book. I used to be a skeptic, but I have definitely been converted.

Still so relevant -- good update 14. Oktober 2013
Von M. Wolf - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
This is a great book and this update does not detract or do more than was originally presented. I am a social worker in a medical setting. This book is great in that first and foremost it provides a reminder, a vision, a focus, a lessons on being in the moment and the power of being in the moment for me. It also provides a rich source to help the people I work with.

If you are looking for a book that helps the focusing on the moment and looking at what is right (as opposed to what is wrong) this is great. While I as well as other may have "diagnosis" it is not in the diagnosis where I will find wellness. Being present, which is needed to see strengths, is where wellness is to be found. This is a great book for being in the moment so the journey to wellness can progress.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn about mindfulness, healing, wellness, and how to cope with pain or other chronic conditions.

Sometimes I think back... 18. April 2014
Von Yi - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
To the days of my life before I found this book, or as I sometimes like to look at it, before this book found me. I was a high strung mess of anxiety, even afraid to go to work and face the "challenges" of a day of social interaction and internal struggle and emotions. I wasn't completely sure what I was, but I was pretty sure I was suffering from what doctors would call social or maybe generalized anxiety. And with that came depression and sometimes hopelessness of ever changing and moving on. This went on for years--for as far back as I can remember--and it only seemed like it was getting worse, and I was never able to accept myself, I thought myself a failure of some sort. What had I or my parents done wrong in raising me? Why me?
When I found this book, I had been through several programs for anxiety that I had found and downloaded online--none of them helping much--and when I read the introduction, something about it clicked with me. It somehow subconsciously made sense and I knew that I had found something that might actually change the way I WAS, and unknowingly but much more importantly, change the way I viewed myself.
Over the next 8 months, I almost religiously followed the exercises in the book. I learned more about myself and the world around me in those eight months than I have in the past ten years, at least it feels that way.
To cut a long story short, I still have anxiety, but on a scale of 1-10 it is now a 2 where it was an 7 or an 8 before. Simply put, practicing mindfulness pulls the rug from under anything that bothers you in any way. It teaches you that it's ok to feel any emotion and think any thought because that is what is already here. It teaches you to accept those things, and in the process of doing that, those horrible horrible things lose their power over you, and you can begin to heal.
To anyone suffering from emotional pain of any sort, please let me be an example to you that you don't have to be controlled by these terrible feelings. Learn to accept them as they are, and they will go away by themselves.
This book is a great way to start. Please consider

A book that can change one's life if we try 24. Februar 2014
Von Roslyn Roth - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I am taking a course at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter Florida and this is required reading for the course. It goes along with our professor who has been teaching Mindfullness Living for 17 years and though I am 67 years of age this book has taught me a lot about living as we age. As a cancer survivor I really needed this book to help me cope with aging, realizing that I can't do as much as I could when I was younger and how to cope with aging parents and children who are married and in their early 40s and raising their own children. This book has taught me how to relax a little and breath deeply and think before I just jump to a conclusion about stressful matters in my life. One can always learn even when we are a senior and I would advise that any person young or old read this book as it will change their outlook on life. I purchased three extra copies to give to my daughter and two friends who I thought could take away some new life skills from this book.
