Kurzbeschreibung

An important book that gives artists the best advice on freely expressing themselves in acrylics. It is not enough to learn just the techniques but to understand how to choose the right technique to express what you feel or how to interpret what you see. It is also important to paint the right element of what you see to give real impact. Using your instinct to simplify and exaggerate, the book shows you how to have freedom of expression with a paintbrush. Leading acrylics painter John Hammond focuses on an increasingly popular medium which has terrific potential to deliver images with impact. One of the key elements of the book is the "picture analysis" at the end of each chapter. A single painting is dissected to highlight -- in summary -- all the major points made within that chapter. Richly illustrated throughout with finished paintings, close-up details and step-by-step instructions, the book covers: 1: Starting Points: inspiration * a visual language * travel * scope and variety 2: Reference material: working on site * sketches and drawings * photographs * plein-air paintings 3: Design: instinct and discovery * essential elements * colour and design 4: Painterly qualities: colour * translucency and opacity * texture 5: Interpretation: personal response * simplification and exaggeration * a sense of place 6: Creating impact: balance and contrast * the whole picture * resolving objectives.

Synopsis

This is an important book that gives artists the best advice on freely expressing themselves in acrylics. One of the key elements of the book is the 'picture analysis' at the end of each chapter. A single painting is dissected to highlight - in summary - all the major points made within that chapter.

Richly illustrated throughout with finished paintings, close-up details and step-by-step instructions, the book covers: Starting Points - inspiration: a visual language, travel, and scope and variety; Reference material - working on site: sketches and drawings, photographs, and plein-air paintings; Design - instinct and discovery: essential elements, and colour and design; Painterly qualities - colour: translucency and opacity, and texture; Interpretation - personal response: simplification and exaggeration, and a sense of place; and, Creating impact - balance and contrast: the whole picture, and resolving objectives (word count: 20,000).This book is from bestselling acrylics author John Hammond. It shows how to use instinct as well as technique to create paintings with impact. It covers a range of ideas and techniques for artists of all abilities. It includes a 'Picture Analysis' at the end of each chapter to highlight the main points.

inspiring but not helpful 31. Oktober 2008
Von Joseph G. Lanthrum - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
John Hammond's skills are very evident in this new book. The paintings included are more complex and more interesting that those in his first book, or his DVD. Unfortunately, there are no illustrations of the step by step process used to create the beautiful final results. This is more a peak into the artist's motivations and general rules for creating paintings than a detailed look at the actual process of applying paint and developing the images presented. I loved looking at the final results, but was disappointed that I didn't get to see more of the details as the paintings were being developed.

book purchased mainly for wide range of paintings included . Saw book at Art teachers studio . Flicking through it , I saw many examples of what teacher was talking about . Also helpful for basic techniques on starting a painting . Suited my particular style I want to develop . An excellent addition to any Art Library , especially the beginner . I recommend it

Excellent 15. August 2009
Von Lynne Gracie - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
This book is very impressive, in the way the artist explains how he paints and how he uses the Acrylic paint is very easy to read. The paintings in this book really show the artist expressive mood at the time of the painting them and the colours he uses in the paintings are exceptional. The book has inspired me, who uses oils in my paintings, to have a go with Acrylics.
