Kurzbeschreibung

November 1998 Fragments (Buch 1)
A team of brilliant psychologists has assembled in a small college town to conduct a revolutionary experiment that challenges the very nature of identity and individuality. Their subjects are savants, mentally and emotionally challenged individuals, each of whom possesses an amazing gift. One person can calculate calendar dates backward and forward, while another can memorize an entire library or assemble jigsaw puzzles at the speed of lightning. Each of these very special people is flawed and psychologically handicapped, but what if five such savants are cybernetically linked together to create a sixth composite personality? Can this newly created entity be more than the sum of its parts? At first the experiment yields promising results, but a terrifying secret in the past will transform the project in ways the researchers never anticipated - and infect the newborn intelligence with a catastrophic thirst for vengeance.

Where are the new Stephen Kings and Dean Koontzes coming from? Former psychology professor James F. David puts himself near the top of the contenders' list with his second thriller--an absorbing story that soon leaves implausibility behind in the dust. Research psychologist Wes Martin fuses together the minds of five idiot savants, hoping to create from the shattered fragments of their individual psyches one superior being. But--wouldn't you know it?--a sixth fragment gets into the mix: the raging spirit of a woman raped and murdered in the very house where Martin's melding is going on. She, of course, wants revenge--and most readers will be red-eyed but satisfied with the way things work out. David's well-received first thriller, Footprints of Thunder, is available in paperback. -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

Pressestimmen

"Literate, creepy, and full of secrets." --Kevin J. Anderson, "New York Times" bestselling author of "The X-Files: Ground Zero"

"Probably the most literate and best thought-out thriller of the year....If you think that's too much praise for a new author, sit down and give it ten minutes." --"The Salem Statesmen Journal"

5.0 von 5 Sternen An intelligent, engrossing thriller 13. Juni 2000
Format:Taschenbuch
I simply could not put this one down - I read it in two sittings over the course of a weekend. The level of scientific detail is just right - doesn't overwhelm the reader with jargon, but doesn't patronize either. The characters are well-defined and sympathetic. The lead characters play off each other well, reinforcing the age-old science vs. spirituality debate. I wonder if Mr. David has thought about turning this into a screenplay - it reads like a movie as is. Definately worth your time.

Quite simply, this is one of my favorite books of all time. Any time I don't have a new book to read, I drag my already old and haggard copy out and start it all over again. I can't recommend this one enough, all I can say is, if you're reading this review, then you're wasting valuable time that could be put to use reading Fragments.

5.0 von 5 Sternen His second book, his second great thriller 28. Dezember 1999
Format:Taschenbuch
Fragments is a very original book with characters that are easy to get to know and get attached to. Dr. Martin and his team have gathered idiot savants from all over the world and experiments combining each amazing talent into one great mind. However, this is being conducted in a house where a young woman was raped and murdered, here soul still wandering...

has one of the most chilling, creepy beginnings of a book I'ver ever read. Howerever gets a little predictable in some ways, but nice mix of horror, mystery and sci fi. I'd recommend it, and I hope James David keeps writing.. characterizations quirky and believable..read this one!!

5.0 von 5 Sternen *Gulp* Wow... 7. August 1998
Format:Taschenbuch
That about says it all. It's been a very long time since I have read a book that kept my attention enough to read it in two nights, putting it down only when I had to. A story with characters, settings, and emotions that draw you in. A must read for someone looking for a _good_ book.

I couldn't put the book down! I had a big project due, butinstead of working on it, I spent the entire weekend reading thisnovel. I was kept guessing until the very end! The story is extremely well developed and very well written. (I'd say more but I don't want to give anything away.) From the very beginning I felt attached to the characters. This is one of the best books I've read in a while and as a bookstore manager I read a ton of books!
