4.0 von 5 Sternen Physics-Defying Action-Packed Spy Thriller! 29. April 2011
Von Selena Kitt - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
If you like thrillers, spies, and physics-defying action movies, you're going to love FLEE. Chandler (only her codename - we never learn her "real" name of course) is like Angelina Jolie in every spy/action thriller you've ever seen - on steroids and amphetamines.

I can't tell you much about the story itself without giving too much away, and the twists and turns in this book are such fun, I won't spoil it for you. Suffice to say that the story will keep you on your toes, turning page after breathless page, wondering just what could possibly happen next?!

It was a fun read, especially if you expect that super-spies can defy most of the laws of physics and action/thriller books, like action/thriller movies, take the idea of "coincidence" to a whole new level. Voss Peterson and Konrath wrote seamlessly together - I couldn't tell who was writing what, so there were no distractions. And I was particularly amused by references to ebooks and Kindles, as well as the appearance of Jack Daniels from Konrath's novels and even the inimitable McGlade.

My only minor quibble would be that I expected/hoped for a little more romance thrown in, with Voss Peterson in the mix, but in that I was disappointed. Although there is one hot little sex scene that steamed up the pages which didn't disappoint at all!

I would definitely recommend this book to Konrath and Voss Peterson fans, but I'd also say that thriller/action readers are going to find this a fun, fast-paced read, well worth your time!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Assassins, clones, Russians....Oh My! 27. Juni 2011
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Flee: A Thriller
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my review. At first, I did not like this book at all. I have to be fair and tell you that thrillers are not really my cup of tea. And I've never read these authors before, but I decided to give this book a chance and surprisingly found that I was actually kind of enjoying it towards the end. It is a very fast paced, exciting read.

Chandler is a spy who learns a lot about herself while fleeing from past and present enemies. She rushes through one life threatening encounter to another without time to take a breath in between. The story would make a great action packed movie. Chandler reminded me of Angelina Jolie in "Lara Croft, Tomb Raider" or Jennifer Garner in "Alias". It was filled with ninja-like assassins, clones and Russians, everything you'd want in a spy novel (or movie).

There was one sex scene that was pretty graphic and I thought it was unnecessary. That said, I think I would enjoy this as a movie more than I did a novel. I would rate it "ok".

3.0 von 5 Sternen Ridiculous, But Entertaining 4. März 2012
Von Markh - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Although nobody is going to mistake this book for a Great Work of Literature, it is certainly entertaining enough in its completely over-the- top way. Both the plot and the (numerous) action scenes require a huge suspension of disbelief, but the authors are very good writers and the book held my attention from the start to the cliff-hanger ending, which is obviously a set-up for the next book in the series, Spree, which I gather is due out some time soon. I hope it will be available in the amazon prime Kindle lending library (which is how I got this book) since while I want to see what happens with the main character I doubt I'd be willing to pay a lot of money to do so. (One interesting thing that the book made me wonder about: at one point in it a character mentions that Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler were both spy novelists. This came as a surprise to me, since I associate both authors with private eyes rather than spies. I do know that Hammett wrote, for a time, the Secret Agent X-9 character strip, but I'm not aware of any spy novels that he or Raymond Chandler wrote. Does anybody know of any?)

1.0 von 5 Sternen terrible 16. Juli 2011
Von Laura Williams - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Had potential thought a little caffiene inspired.

It was terrible due to the lack of an ending. Both my aunt and I downloaded to our kindle therefore not sure if it is a Kindle issue or the author forgot to write a few chapters to the end, Can someone please comment.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Now that was fun! 2. Februar 2012
Von 4everSLAUGHTERED - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Chandler is a woman who has been trained to be a weapon used by the government. She is given a new identity and a new life as an undercover operative. She can also "kill a man eighteen ways using just her thumb "and has an amazing and very handy sense of smell. Chandler's cover has been blown and the worst day of her life has just begun.

Someone is trying to kill her and she must "flee". The action begins immediately as Chandler evades assassins approaching her apartment. She loses contact with her "handler" and is left alone to figure out who is trying to kill her and why. The action never stops. Gunfire battles, car chases, amazing hand to hand fights, waterboarding, knife fights, and edge of your seat acrobats are all included. On top of someone trying to kill her, she must deal with Cory, a man who is a total creep, and he has kidnapped her only friend, Kaufmann. Chandler only has a few hours to rescue him all while dodging would be assassins.

During her rough day, Chandler reflects on her past before becoming an operative and her lonely unemotional life as an operative. Chandler reflects on her recruitment and training by "The Instructor". She refers to the intense training as "Rambo camp". She is taught to use a variety of weapons, to speak different languages, to kill without emotion, and to never give up secrets. Some of these scenes are very intense.

Since the story takes place in Chicago and bodies begin to pile up, the always stylish Homicide Detective Jack Daniels makes an appearance. Another Konrath character, the womanizing ex-cop Harry McGlade, also makes a very funny and strange appearance.

Other reviewers have complained about an explicit sex scene. I will never understand why readers get upset over sex between two consenting adults, but they never complain about the graphic violence and gore in the same story. What? Murder is better that sex? The sex scene is actually important to the story. It makes Chandler and the reader realize she is actually human. She is not a piece of ice or a tool used by the government as she was trained to be. She wants to feel, to trust and to be wanted.

Flee is fast paced and intense. It is definitely a page turner. Sure some of it is unbelievable and would never happen, but that is what made it so much fun. It is not meant to be taken seriously. (I hope) It was fun and a great escape from reality.
