THE BEST FOR A FIRST READ!

Enid’s books were the catalyst which encouraged me to start reading more than 50 years ago. Thank you, Enid. The BBC, many libraries, local authorities and alleged educational experts have been completely wrong about the worth of the Blyton works. I can remember having substantial difficulty obtaining the original books as so many places would not stock them. The stories are great to read for their simplicity and straightforwardness.

When one did find copies of the book they were quite expensive all those years ago but great to own. I loved the letter on the back cover from Enid and the physical appearance of the book which I treasured as a youngster with the way the books were produced then which made them somehow much easier to read.

It’s a delight to read the stories again in middle age although recent editing has diminished some of the memories I have of the original editions and words used then (but I am now getting old). Never mind… these books remain one of my best friends for life: they began my reading adventure so do read these special adventures for yourselves.

HASH(0x9d8ca3c0) von 5 Sternen A wonderful child's adventure tale. 19. November 2007
Von Graves - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
The 2nd book in Blyton's "Famous five' series is one of my favorites. Set in the late 1940's the series tells the tales of 4 cousins and their dog who, in a world before video games and cell phones get involved with such goings on as smugglers and burried treasures and secret passages.

This adventure is set in the winter holidays after the children's first adventure when they are straddled with a tutor for the holidays because of poor grades. Most of the children take to the tutor quite well, but since he does not like dogs, George, don't call her Georgina, does not like the tutor.

At first this just makes things difficult but as the situation deteriorates with secret paper's being stolen and people acting in peculiar ways, the children have to wonder, is George right in her suspicions or is it just her dislike for the tutor getting in the way of finding the real spies?

Add to this an ancient piece of parchment that details some secret passage and a blizzard that leave isolated farm houses cut off and the stage is set for adventure.

HASH(0x9d8ca51c) von 5 Sternen Old fashioned kids stories 16. April 2011
Von Roger L. Sayer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Enid Blyton was a favorite writer of childrens stories in the 40's, 50's and 60's and they were broadcast by BBC radio in 'Childrens Hour'. They are a bit passe but I bought them for sentimental reasons. I expect many elderly ex-Brits would do the same. But,alas,I fear modern children will find them corny and not at all entertaining. A pity, but these stories couldn't compete with the blitzkrieg of today's childrens fare.

HASH(0x9d8ca48c) von 5 Sternen Great children's reading 14. Juli 2012
Von txrev - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This is a great series and my children really enjoy the books. It makes for great family reading. The only slight disadvantage is that in places the translation to electronic has resulted in typographical errors that can be a little irritating. Because this disrupts the reading flow a little, I've given a 4 star rating rather than 5 star. The language is also a little dated because the book is quite old. Overall though, I found these issues to be relatively minor and the book was well worth the money. Good story, appropriate content for kids.
HASH(0x9d8ca5e8) von 5 Sternen 'Five Go Adventuring Again' was The second book in Enid Blyton's popular 'Famous Five Series' 28. Juni 2012
Von Jeffrey A - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
'Five Go Adventuring Again' was written in 1942. It is the second book in Enid Blyton's popular 'Famous Five Series'. This Kindle edition features a new cover illustration and revised text to bring the dialogue up to date for a whole new generation of readers and also includes a personalized note (dated 14 June 2010) from Enid Blyton's granddaughter - Sophie Smallwood. This is a nice touch!

'The Famous Five' is Enid Blyton's most popular series based on the characters Julian, Dick and Anne, George and Timmy the dog. The first book, Five On A Treasure Island was written in 1942 . The last book, Five are Together Again written in 1963 completes the 21 book 'Famous Five' series.

Although, these stories are around 50 to 70 years old, they remain fresh and exciting today.

What is Blyton's evergreen book formula?
It's simple! Enid Blyton created 'believable' characters complete with faults. Young readers identified with these kids back then, and still do so today!

The 'Famous Five' are a group of British children who often stumble upon the most exciting adventures involving smugglers, spies, lost treasures, secret maps, caves, circus folk and gypsies. They holiday in quaint seaside villages or cycle, hike or caravan through the English countryside, often by themselves.

Ginger beer, ham rolls, hot buttered scones, ices and canned pineapples always seem to be the kids' staple diet! Enid Blyton cleverly made these simple meals sound so deliciously exciting!

Over 8 million Enid Blyton books are sold in over 200 countries each year! What is the most successful Enid Blyton series of all time? You guessed! It's 'The Famous Five' :))

5 STARS for 'Five Go Adventuring Again' as well as the ENTIRE 'Famous Five' series!
