I bought this Japanese "First Thousand Words" based on my experience with the French and German versions of the series.
I sent it back because within 15 minutes of opening it my wife and I found at least 2 obvious inconsistencies in the Hiragana/Romaji text.
Maybe the errors are fixed in a later edition. I would not recommend this one unless you have someone with you who can point out the mistakes.

Bildern hilfen wirklich die Wörtern sehr leicht im Kopf zu halten. Die Wörtern sind im hiragana und romaji geschrieben. Am Ende des Buches; alle Wörtern mit englische Bedeutung aufgelistet. Eigentlich ich wünschte mir 5000 oder 10000 bilder-wörterbuch in gleiche Art wie dieses Buch.

Every page shows a different scenario (for example a beach of a hospital) with small images and the translation of words contained in the scenario assembled around it. This way the words can be learned easily by the visual connection created ...
If you are able to get a cheap copy of this book I would recommend it anytime for building up vocabulary in specific word fields.
