Field & Stream has a reputation as a good source for information for both hunters and wildlife enthusiasts and it is well-earned. I remember reading their magazine while waiting in the dentist's office as a child so when I wanted a book on hunting safety and I saw that they made a handbook, I had to have it. It is perfect, the information in it is timeless in the modern era. It includes narrations of real stories about hunting accidents and details what went wrong and how they could be avoided. It also has some great charts on ammunition sizes and effective range. Sometimes we focus entirely on the game but remembering that rounds can still be dangerous after they hit the deer/elk/etc. is crucial.
I recommend this easy-to-read and informative manual to anyone that is learning to hunt, but also remember that it is meant as a supplement to hunter's safety courses not a replacement.
