Fire Rose is a wonderful read. The characters are well-defined, and the plot is smooth and logical. Lackey is a fine storyteller, and she continues with this delightful story. The heroine is smart and spunky, the hero is brave and flawed, and the bad guy is wonderfully evil. It is a tale filled with magicks and desire. All these elements make it a book that you will read into the early morning hours and not regret a single moment of lost sleep.

While I enjoy Lackey's work, I found this one to be quite a disappointment. The characters seemed undeveloped and inane. It fit more into a gothic romance genre than fantasy even though it had its fair share of sorcery.
The book was overall entertaining though. My biggest complaint is the climax. It just seemed to rush by too fast...almost as if Lackey was being timed by the clock to wrap it up quickly. As a result, the end leaves you with an unsatisfied feeling at the pit of your stomach and a whirlwind of thoughts which make you wonder, "What the heck just happened?"
Oh well...although this book didn't live up to my expectations for Lackey, I will still continue to read her works.

Misty's descriptions and details of life in the 1900s, as well as her vivid portrayal of the protagonists, are extremely detailed and makes this book an enjoyable read. This is a typical "beauty and the beast" type of book, mixed with Gothic romance and a touch of fantasy. Rosalind Hawkins charms us with her incredible strength of character and spunk - a sterotypical Misty female protagonist. However, the villians, Du Mond and Beltaire, are a bit too blantantly portrayed. I would prefer a bit more subtlety, and maybe endow them with a few redeeming qualities so they would not be just some other "cardboard" villians. The ideas of magicks, the salamanders and the elements were rather innovative and original. This book, despite its smooth plot and well-defined characters, does not make you think, and thus is rather shallow. It's readability, the moving tribute it is to the qualities of love, and the characters whom you can sympathize with, though, make it well worth your read.

Absolutely Wonderful!
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I could not put this book down, I read it through in one night, then I HAD to go back and reread the best parts, it was that good. I highly recomend this book.

I LOVE IT!

WONDERFUL!
The Fire Rose is definately one of my favorite books ever. And, of course, it's predictable! It's supposed to be the classic Beauty And The Beast story, but with a "Misty... Lesen Sie weiter...

Dissapointing
It went very quickly from potentially interesting to very predictable. I have been reading Lackys books for years and I suppose I came to expect more.

Mind-candy that wasted its potential.
At the two-thirds point: This book is somewhat reminiscent of Stephen Brust and Emma Bull's _Freedom_And_Necessity_ in that it is what I'd call a contemporary fantasy/period... Lesen Sie weiter...
