"...with an easy style and great depth, Final Cut Pro Workflows: The Independent Studio Handbook is an enjoyable and important read. Osder and Carman offer a diverse background and extensive experience with Final Cut Pro." - Richard Harrington, President, RHED Pixel; author, Photoshop for Video, 3rd Edition, Final Cut Studio on the Spot, 3rd Edition "Builds the theory and practice of using FCP around a variety of real-world project scenarios. Final Cut Pro Workflows combines an encyclopedia of detailed information on technical specs for shooting and editing with surprisingly readable stories about applying the tools to actual projects. Not just how to use a to build the house." -- Blaine Graboyes, Media Architect, Worldwide Biggies, NYC "...what makes Final Cut Pro Workflows: The Independent Studio Handbook a standout in a crowded field of books on the 'how to' of digital editing is the recognition that it's not just about learning the technology, but about how you think, organize, and manage a project to bring it to successful conclusion. Osder and Carman have written a unique book that brings together the critical marriage of technology and the real world circumstances that confront nascent Final Cut Pro editors. Indispensable!" - Nina Gilden Seavey, Emmy Award-winning Filmmaker; Director, The Documentary Center, George Washington University

Today's digital production tools empower the small team to produce multimedia projects that formerly required large teams. Orchestrating a production requires more than proficiency with the postproduction tools. "Final Cut Pro Workflows: The Independent Studio Handbook" offers a cookbook of postproduction workflows that teams can follow to deliver an array of products to their clients. It describes appropriate postproduction workflows, team roles and responsibilities, and required equipment for some of the most common media productions.Combining the wisdom of traditional roles and responsibilities with an understanding of how FCP facilitates a new flexibility where these roles/responsibilities can be redistributed, this book sheds light on workflow processes and responsibilities, and includes 7 real-world workflows from a diverse range of projects: Money-Saving Digital Video Archive; Long-Form Documentary with Mixed Sources; Web-Based Viewing and Ordering System; 30-Second Spot for Broadcast; Multi-Part TV Series with Multiple Editors; DVD Educational Supplement; Music Video with Multi-Cam Editing; and Multiple Outputs. The book also provides access to a companion website that features additional electronic chapters focusing on Final Cut Server, Apple's powerful new media asset management and workflow automation software.

Written with a unique iconography to better convey key points and applicable to all levels of FCP users, "Final Cut Pro Workflows: The Independent Studio Handbook" is a vital reference tool for every postproduction house. It features real-world workflows and case studies that provide blueprints that readers can follow to efficiently coordinate multimedia projects. It clearly defines team member responsibilities and details their roles in efficient postproduction workflows. It provides technical and administrative direction that smoothes the way to expanding a studio's postproduction repertoire.

Great resource with helpful case studies 16. Juni 2008
Von Matt Pavelle - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
As a user of Final Cut Pro, but a relative newbie to postproduction I've struggled to understand the "Big Picture" of postproduction workflow.

Final Cut Pro Workflows is an awesome resource that doesn't cover all the same button pushing techniques that every other Final Cut Pro book does, but provides insightful and thoughtful workflow techniques that I've been able to apply to all my projects.

What I found particularly cool, and what I think separates this book from others is the 3rd part of book which is a collection of case studies. These case studies are great because they're written as a narrative and explore quite a few different workflows using Final Cut Pro.

This book is a must have!

Amazing Find: Great for any workflow -FCP or not 30. August 2008
Von Leon Bussinger - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
This book should be marketed differently. I (hesitantly) picked it up expecting a very software specific how to book and what I got was a guide to creating and maintaining a sucessful post production firm.

I am new to the production world; only just recently opening a boutique production company here in Chicago.
For a while I struggled with Final Cut Pro and maintaining productive organization from reel to distribution.

The amount of money that this book has saved me is starting to stretch into the thousands. Optimizing your workflow within Final Cut is the best way to maintain quality and effeciency.

Most creative media help books talk about specifics, glorified tutorials really. Final Cut Pro Workflows breaks down the entire process of post-production in a really straightforward way.

It even gives you amazing case studies that touch on not only the physical aspect of the post-production but dealing with clients, vendors, and talent.

Imagine the best textbook you ever read in school, especially on your favorite subject. I don't know about others but I would read it through, enjoying learning the material. Final Cut Pro Workflows does that.

This book, while obviously geared towards FCP (with suite specific hints, shortcuts, options), should also be marketed towards the overall creation and maintainability of any production company regardless of the suite.
With just a little bit of translation you can apply the business help aspects of this book to an Adobe/ Avid workflow or even a workflow that has takes advantage of ALL the available software out there.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a desire to take their production values to the professional level.

An excellent book for instructors and those who truly want to understand "the process" 3. Februar 2009
Von James J. Biddle - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
After teaching post production for many years, it is nice to find a book the exemplifies six important words: "Story, story, story! Workflow, workflow, workflow!" This book is designed very well for those who truly want to understand the processes involved with post production. After years of trying to find books that would compliment my professional knowledge and collegiate instruction, Jason and Robbie have provided me with an excellent reference for my academic and professional students.

Fills Gaps for Editors and Producers Alike 2. Oktober 2008
Von Virginia Quesada - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
Your book fills a much needed gap in the non linear workflow for editors and producers alike! For me the video formats and compression chapters are fabulous cross platform information. Lately, it seems that everywhere I go people are reading it.

This is a great guide for anyone interested in the post-production process. As a handbook it offers up answers to many issues that arise along the path of film/video post-production. Very impressive and well worth investment of time and money. Highly recommended.
