Kurzbeschreibung

Every fighter is drawn to the violence, the release that a perfect hit can bring.

But very few are drawn to the pain.

Rex Carter lives behind a wall of indifference. The demons from his childhood act as an anesthetic, keeping him distant from emotional connections. Only the ache from a knock to the jaw, the sting of a tattoo needle, or the heat from a piercing can jolt him back from the numbness. The fiery pain is all he can feel, and nothing compares to the burn.

Or so he thought.

Working in a Las Vegas bar isn't Georgia McIntyre's dream. But she hopes it'll be an end to the nightmare.

She's watched him, followed him and kept tabs, all in preparation for this moment: to make amends and share the secret she’s been carrying since she was a kid. But she didn't count on the feelings that seeing him again would stir up, the vacant look in his stormy-blue eyes, and his perfect body now mutilated by ink and metal.

And she knows why. She's lived his pain every single day, since the day he left.

Changed by time, Rex doesn't remember the girl from his past. If only she could do the same.

Will she get the absolution she's spent her life seeking?

Or will he continue Fighting to Forget?

April 2014
Von Gigimomma - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Rex had been abused in the most horrific way as a child in the foster care system. His only salvation had been a Gia a a little girl who would comfort him by bringing him stuffed animals and singing him Christmas songs. Fast forward some years later. Rex is now a professional MMA fighter and lead singer for a successful band when he meets Mac a waitress at the club where his band plays. He is immediately attracted to her but Rex' s troubled past has left him seriously, emotionally scarred which leads him to avoid any lasting emotional attachment. But with Mac he finds himself wanting to try and conquer his demons for the first time. Mac is strong, can deal with his issues and he finds himself drawing on her strength to conquer his demons. Her strength and acceptance slowly begin to heal him until her secrets shatter his heart.

This book started out with a bang. Rex is the tortured scarred hero I love to read about. Mac is the strong, independent heroine that complements him. The story was gripping, romantic, heartbreaking and sexy. And then the author decided to turn her strong, independent heroine into a co dependent crack whore. This is the biggest wtf twist in any book I've ever read. It ruined the book and the story for me. She spends six months living with a disgusting man she loathed who is more likely a wanted murderer so she can get high. She ends up overdosing on heroin and this is when Rex finds her. Living in squalor and dying from an overdose. This negated everything that went on previously the strong heroine becomes a,weak, dependent sick woman. So, I think we can all agree addiction is a serious illness. Mac almost died from it and yet she comes out of a heroin induced coma magically cured. No rehab or detox for her because I guess love cures everything. I ended up feeling sorry for Rex and not at all believing in the happily ever after because what will happen when Mac is confronted with another difficult situation? Will she relapse? Can a former drug addict and a seriously psychologically and emotionally damaged person make a go of it. Maybe but highly unlikely. I wish Rex had ended up with his neighbor Emma. He deserved better. I don't think I'll be reading any more books by this author. This one left a serious bad taste. Not recommended.

2.0 von 5 Sternen OK - but our leading lady ended up being very weak 20. April 2014

I really liked the beginning. Mac/Gia was tough. She was someone I could really like. She was able to take a hit to the face without blinking. She loved roller coasters, and heights were not a problem. She seemed Kick-but with biker boots, leather and a motorcycle.

She tracked down her foster brother Rex. She intended to give him the information about his past. Rex couldn't remember much about it, but he had issues. He had trouble with sex. He was often mad at the world and liked pain. He has all of these issues and yet he has made friends and a life for himself.

Mac comes into his life, and they fall in love. So she doesn't share the past with him.

**** Spoiler Alert

Rex is mad. That makes sense. He throws her out of his apartment, and wants nothing to do with her. That makes sense because all of his memories come back.

Now what doesn't make sense to me - Mac goes into a depression. She hooks up with a bad boy biker - who isn't even attractive. She ends up addicted to drugs. So my strong kick-but lead lady becomes a mess. It just doesn't make sense.

We learn about Mac's background finally.... Then she ends up not needing drugs. Mmmmmmm... I've never been on drugs, but from everything I've seen on TV, read, etc. You don't just stop taking drugs because you don't want them anymore.

So this book didn't work for me. It was a page turner that I did cry about. So I was caught up in it at times. But logically - from someone who likes books about aliens, zombies, vampires, fairies... - logically it just didn't work for me.

It is an 18+ book.

Warning: This book is about two flawed people. It is not about perfect people and perfect romance. It is heartbreaking, sad, and ultimately beautiful with it's imperfections.

I knew after reading Blake’s book and hearing that Rex was the next story in this series that Ms. Salsbury was going to BREAK. MY. HEART. Even before his book begins, when he is secondary character in Jonah’s and Blake’s stories, Rex is the type that you know there is something simmering under the surface and it’s just waiting to burst out.

I adored his story. After building the tension, Ms. Salsbury ripped the heart out of my chest at 57% and then ever so gently replaced it at 83%. This story had betrayal, untold horrors, pain, and self-loathing in spades, but the underlying story of pure, sweet, innocent love that spanned years, that survived on memories of something good in the midst of something evil, was ever present.

If you haven’t read the first two books in the series, Fighting for Flight about Jonah and Raven, and Fighting to Forgive about Blake and Layla, you really should before reading this book. While it is a standalone with a HEA, the whole story is epic and should be enjoyed in order so you can see the character development over the whole series instead of just one book. There were surprises in this story that I didn’t see coming, based on events that happened in the first book.
These books are definitely on my keeper shelf, to be reread, and reread, and reread.

Rex is hot - I've been excited to get to his story since meeting him in Fighting for Flight. And this book delivers a good read for the most part - this review will likely contain spoilers so if you don't like to know what happens in a book before reading it, look away. I, on the other hand, immediately skip to the end and read the last chapter!

This story starts off strong, and while you can infer Rex and Mac's trauma from the story, it's still intriguing to watch the two of them grow as a couple and individuals through their relationship. It's sweet and romantic, he's really making progress with his idiosyncrasies (people in his house, touching others, sex). The two are well on their way to love and fulfillment.

That is, until Mac blurts out that she knew Rex from back when and she's the girl that used to help him after his "visitors". Rex gets upset (justifiably so!) and Mac takes off. Where does she end up? As a junkie in Colorado with a motorcycle gang, sleeping with a guy for her next hit. WHAT?! I'm sorry but that "twist" completely threw me out of the story and the fact that SIX months passes between her leaving and Rex finding her really grinds my gears. I don't feel the book recovers from this dramatic 180-degree turn in plot and I stopped caring about Mac (and hottie Rex) to the point that it was a real hardship to finish the book.

Also, Mac (or Gia or whatever her name is) spends six months taking hit after hit of cocaine, falls into a drug-induced coma for 10 days and wakes up completely sober? No way...I don't buy that. She would have some withdrawal symptoms (even if she's physically not craving it, mentally she would still be addicted). Apparently Rex's love is better than rehab.

The rest of the book ends abruptly and the happy-ever-after comes about in like 2 pages. Upsetting.

Sorry, JB Salsbury, you jumped the shark with this book and I don't see myself reading any future novels in this series.

2.0 von 5 Sternen I'm fighting to forget this book 21. April 2014
Von Courtney - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I had a lot of problems with this book and I'll try and explain them without spoiling it for others.

1. The Heroine-Mac/Gia: The premise of the book is that Mac has made it to Vegas in order to tell the hero, Rex, that she didn't know that her parents, who were Rex's foster parents, abused him. Of course, she looks different, doesn't tell him who she is, and while she's wringing her hands about telling him, she never tells him, he discovers it on his own, and of course, it leads to the BIG MISUNDERSTANDING-one of my biggest pet peeves in fiction.

2. The Hero-Rex: First, the author seems to have tried to copy J.R. Ward's Zsadist for Rex-he has piercings and tats because he loves the pain, only has sex with prostitutes when he can't control his urges any more, gets nauseous after sex, and when he and Mac/Gia finally have sex, he has to control the way they are, their positions etc. I wouldn't say this is some of J.R.'s influence-it's Zsadist as an MMA fighter in Vegas in 2014.

3. Rex gets over Mac's "betrayal" as soon as he hears she's in trouble. That's the other part that's so hard to believe-he literally rushes to be by her side, even though he's had nothing to do with her for six months. She's become a crack addict and shacked up with a biker, Hatch, who if you believe the first part of the book, she can't stand and would never be with.

The entire ending was completely too easy and entirely unbelievable. I loved the debut in this series and was lukewarm on the second, but I don't think I'll be continuing in this series.
