In Formula 1 racing, commercial sponsorship and dependency on technology has elevated the stakes to extraordinary heights. Because of this, teams and manufacturers have gone to great lengths to protect their technical secrets. That's what makes this book so special and unique. When Scuderia Ferrari gave author Peter Wright access to team principals and to Michael Schumacher's 2000 championship-winning car, he provided a rarely-seen look at the inner workings of a championship vehicle - technical specifications, assembly drawings, functional details, and performance analysis. Wright, a former Team Lotus engineer, capitalized on this unique opportunity and the result is Ferrari Formula 1: Under the Skin of the Championship-Winning F1-2000. By combining Ferrari's own technical drawings, computer models, and photos with candid interviews with Michael Schumacher, Jean Todt, Ross Brown, and others, this book provide readers with an unprecedented level of detail and understanding of Formula 1 technology. Ferrari Formula 1also examines the team - Scuderia Ferrari - and its technical partners.

While understanding the design of winning race cars is important, understanding how the people and companies work together is crucial to gaining the winning edge. -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

Must have for techies 4. März 2004
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
I have been watching F1 for over a decade from the electro-pneumatic cars that Nigel Mansell said could drive themselves through last year's nearly close finish. When the GP came to Phoenix for three years I was there every time and it was an experience unlike any other.
In the last year, the pits were opened to the public on Thursday and walking through them was about the only thing I can compare to this book. Of course that was 10 year old technology, but lifting up a wheel and tire with the effort you think it requires and nearly flinging it over your head because it's so light, is the same shock this book gives you with its details.
My favorite section is on the engine. Here the drawings and explanations are unbelievable. How it all works, individual components laid out, even dyno charts. Same for the other sections like transmission, suspension and aerodynamics. How Ferrari operates as a team is also presented and laid down as perhaps its biggest edge.
If you're thinking this is just another Ferrari PR book, you're right. But no one has the track record and history Ferrari does in F1. They were also nothing special in the 80s and early 90s so some respect is due for how hard they worked to get to this level. The book gives details that only an employee might gain access to. It's no wonder Ferrari made the author wait four years to publish it.
I give it five stars only because it has no current peer. If you like F1 and you want to know about the technical side, there is nothing to compare.

A book for every Formula One enthusiast 6. Juni 2005
Von Deepak Murthy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
This book is very well put together with a right blend of images & text. Covers every aspect involved in designing & building a formula one car with a focus on the Ferrari F1-2000.

Being an engineer I would have loved it to be bit more technical but there are a lot of other books that achieve this. This book is for any enthusiast introducing himself to the technical aspects of a modern F1 car.

Keeps away complex equations & explains everything in simple & elegant manner.

I recommend it highly.

Stunning Work 12. April 2004
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
This is an amazing work, even if it does not give the specific information that Ferrari has used to outclass their competition. There is not another work giving the specific details of a Formula 1 racer since Bamsey's review of the MP4/4. The details include a vast amount of information that teams never release, such as engine dimensions, and clearly shows why it took so long to produce! I have a new volume to proudly display in my collection of works on Formula 1.

Coffee table material for the engineer 9. Mai 2005
Von Geoff Miller - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
First, what this book isn't: an engineering textbook with step by step blueprints for the Ferrari F1-2000. What this book is: a great compilation of the technical elements of Formula 1 and Ferrari. The best secrets of F1 still remain secrets in this book. But it does offer glimpses into a hodgepodge of technical and sporting topics: Ferrari's F1 history, monocoque design, safety considerations, fuel technology, tires, aerodynamics, and the Ferrari team structure itself.
The pages are populated with tons of pictures, graphs, diagrams, cutaway views of the car, CAD simulations, and telemetry charts. While the 260 pages of material is far from shallow reading, none of Ferrari's racing competitors would gain an edge by reading this. But it is a great text for the layman engineer who's an F1 fanatic, and great for the coffee table.

Beautiful book , short on technical details 31. Dezember 2005
Von G. Berger - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
This is a beautifully produced book, with many high-quality photographs and drawings. A perfect gift for the F1 enthusiast, especially as an introduction. It devotes a chapter to every aspect of an F1 race car, and is lavishly illustrated and well written. The author, having designed F1 cars himself. obviously knows his topic.

However, it falls seriously short when it comes to technical issues. The chapter devoted to the engine, for example, is woefully short and devoid of any detail. The technical challenges these teams encounter in producing a naturally aspirated 3 liter engine than can live at 14-18,000 rpm, produce 800hp and survive for 200+ miles must be tremendous. But only the most obvious issues are addressed (low reciprocating mass, etc.), and at a superficial level. The engine is only described in the broadest terms. I was surprised when I realized I was at the end of the chapter, having read what seemed like a preface. Considering the expertise of the author and the fact that he was describing a car that trounced the competition in 2000, there should have been more depth to the book. After all, Ferrari did make him wait four years before publishing.
