I read "Heaven's Fire" first and loved it. I really enjoyed the part where Rainulf and Corliss visit Rainulf's sister Martine and her husband, and was quite eager to read the story of their meeting. It's a fantastic book, full of accurate (from what I've read) history and wonderful detail. It's violent and disturbing at times, but then, so was that time period.
The thing I really appreciate about Patricia Ryan's books is that they do have romance, and very hot romance at that, but unlike a standard "Romance" novel, the development of the relationship is very realistic. The lovers don't just lock eyes and decide they are made for each other. Their relationships are given a chance to develop in a very real and believable way, and that makes the physical passion of the book more exciting, in my opinion. Ryan seems to be a master of plot development, and her timing is flawless. These books are perfect for the reader who is intelligent, history loving, and interested in true romance and passion.
