The popularity of fairies and fairy houses has soared, as has the growing movement to get children interested in outdoor activities such as gardening. This new how-to book for parents and kids combines the best of both worlds. It includes basic information for beginning gardeners, such as soil preparation, planting, and watering, then branches into appropriate categories for every fairy gardener:
•making miniature gardens and terrariums that are just the right size for fairy friends
•butterfly and hummingbird gardens to attract these flying friends of fairies
•rock gardens
•water gardens
•wind chimes and prisms to add music and light to your gardens

Sprinkled throughout are bits of fairy lore and garden wisdom. Written for children, or anyone with a child’s heart, and filled with color photographs, the Fairy Garden Handbook will turn curious kids into green thumbs in no time.

The pictures are great. The fairy houses in the pictures are awesome!!! It's nice that Liza put poems before each chapter. That was a great idea. The pictures have good inspiration for fairy gardens. The lists of flowers and plants for fairy gardens are very inspirational. All of the flowers in the pictures are beautiful. This book is so awesome!!! By Annie, Age 8

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fairy Gardens aren't just for faeries! 9. Mai 2013

Format:Kindle Edition
This book is delightful! This goes beyond the idea of fairy houses and helps create a foundation for new gardeners. From learning to create a garden plan, preparing the soil, making a list of materials, this book also introduces the concepts of hardscapes and using natural material. What I love is that to do these projects, you don't need alot of money, just some imagination, and prep work. You can enjoy the projects as a family or in my case as a person looking at her garden with new ways to bring in the fairies. There are suggestion for plants that are easy to grow and wonderful garden container ideas. What is best is that you can dream about what you want to do in your own fairy garden, from simple ideas to more involved structures, and then have the satisfaction of seeing your idea come to light. And isn't that what a book should do?

4.0 von 5 Sternen Beautiful book! 27. August 2013
Von Brianna Kempe - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
This is a beautiful book that is full of some good inspirations, but not a ton of actual useful planning tools. For example, seeing pictures of twig furniture, but not giving a basic plan as to how to build it, was a bit frustrating. (In researching this issue, I found that the _Fairy House Handbook_ may answer my needs, it seems, by the same author. I would think that should have been listed in the Further Reading or Resources section at the back of the book.)

However, as a start to the process of inviting fairies with a welcoming heart to your garden, this is a good place to begin. It gives the basics of what a successful garden needs in terms of nutrition, focusing on the magic of nature to invite the fairies in. Choosing a container and making sure you have the right foundation of soil are key; the lists of plants, their meanings and their uses in fairy gardens was also a wonderful resource. I loved the literary tie-backs to Shakespeare and Marjorie Barrows.

The pictures alone are worth the book's place in your library, and if you have a child wanting to start a fairy garden, flipping through this book is sure to start them on their proper path.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful Fairy Gardens! 27. August 2013
Von Stephanie - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
A wonderful guide to planting beautiful fairy gardens. I enjoyed that it was organized in a way so that included indoor container gardens and outdoor gardens along with a practicle guides to plants to use in each. There was even a list a what plants meant to the fairies and how fairies used them as well as plants to attract bees and butterflies. As an environmental educator this book gave me ideas for fairy garden programs to offer families.
