When a hostage situation at a small Midwest bank results in no suspects, two Des Moines police officers learn that things are never what they appear to be when all the evidence points to one suspect… until it points to another.

Thirty-two people have been held hostage at the Midland Savings and Loan, and $1.2 million is missing, but when the police take the building, there are no robbers, only hostages. On their first case together, Officers Riley and Weathers feel confident they have their man until everything comes crashing down around them. Quickly recovering from their mistakes, they start to put together the pieces of a complicated plot perpetrated by the robber to frame himself. But can they convince the prosecutor, the judge, and the jury that they have it right this time? Can they even convince each other?

I just finished reading this book and found to be good read. The story is about a local bank robbery where an unsuspecting electrician is pegged as the robber and claims he has been `framed'. The book is fast paced, told in a flashback style; with a twist at the end. I thought this was a great first book for Scott. He has a good style that I feel will only improve with time. It is always exciting to find a new author and look forward to future books.
Keep up the good work!!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not well researched 12. Februar 2012

Midland Savings, situated in Des Moines, is robbed of 1.2 million while a group of customers is held hostage. Kevin Peters, an electrician working in the bank at the time of the robbery, finds himself framed for the crime.

I choose this book because of the premise of an innocent person finding themselves convicted of a crime seems totally plausible to me. Unfortunately, while the author has a good story he has not done enough research to make it believable for me. There is no mention of the FBI even though that agency always investigates bank robberies working with local authorities.

In one scene, the local police who are investigating are at the bank five days after it was robbed and there was plywood on the window and broken glass inside. The FDIC would not allow a bank to stay closed that long as it would erode confidence in the bank and in the system.

While the writing is okay, the novel ended up being about bumbling cops who can jail people at will - true horror that undoubtedly happens. When 1.2 million is missing, the authorities do not stop looking for it just because a conviction has occurred making the denouement less believable in reality than the reader is led to believe.

Had the author allowed reality to intrude and incorporated it into the story, he may have had a good book. 2.5 stars

4.0 von 5 Sternen This Book Spooked Me... 11. Februar 2012

Not in a horror novel type of way, but in the realization that this plot could very well happen in real life and probably has/does. While I do enjoy a good tale of terror, I have found that it's the everyday things that aren't intended to be scary that can be the most frightening of all!

FRAMED is for me first a look at what can happen when law enforcement is too quick to pass judgement and becomes so enamored of a quick resolution that they become blinded to any other possibilities that there may be. Not with in any way a malicious or destructive intent, just a true desire to close a case and get their man so that any strong nudge in a direction focuses them solely on that and they become lost along the way.

It is second a look at how law enforcement can discover their error in judgement, make an honest attempt to correct it yet still get the answer wrong which results (spoiler coming next) in 2 men being successfully framed, convicted and sentenced for a crime they did not commit.

The story was well written with few errors that I discovered, but I did subtract 1 star because I had figured out a major part of the ending long before the book closed (one half of who the true criminals were) and because that ending to me felt very abrupt, kind of like here it comes- WHAM! I will be looking for more from this author in the future.

This book was a great read. I really enjoyed the characters and story twits.
As I looked into the author a bit more I realized that this is his first book. Turns out he's been doing radio shows for a few years and now is publishing books. So far so good!
