I read this book with my young nephew in mind and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it myself. There are word plays that will be over the heads of young children but keep adults entertained as they read. Three children stow away for a day's adventure but get more than they bargained for as they search for hidden treasure. Many lessons are learned - how to deal with a bully, the importance of teamwork, the value of friendship. The children visit a fortune teller, see a two headed monster, are given a treasure map and practice magic spells as they find their way home again. Characters take turns stepping forward in the story to help each other, each with a different area of strength. I particularly liked the way the girls were shown as strong characters. This is a quick and entertaining read, should fascinate both boys and girls around age eight.
