In Detail

Express is a minimal and flexible node.js web application framework, providing a robust set of features for building single and multi-page, and hybrid web applications. It provides a thin layer of features fundamental to any web application, without obscuring features that developers know and love in node.js.

"Express Web Application Development" is a comprehensive guide for those looking to learn how to use the Express web framework for web application development.

Starting with the initial setup of the Express web framework, "Express Web Application Development" helps you to understand the fundamentals of the framework. By the end of "Express Web Application Development", you will have acquired enough knowledge and skills to create production-ready Express apps. All of this is made possible by the incremental introduction of more advanced topics, starting from the very essentials.

On the way to mastering Express for application development, we teach you the more advanced topics such as routes, views, middleware, forms, sessions, cookies and various other aspects of configuring an Express application. Jade; the recommended HTML template engine, and Stylus; the CSS pre-processor for Express, are covered in detail.

Last, but definitely not least, Express Web Application Development also covers practices and setups that are required to make Express apps production-ready.

"Express Web Application Development" is a practical introduction to learning about Express. Each chapter introduces you to a different area of Express, using screenshots and examples to get you up and running as quickly as possible.

Who this book is for

If you are looking to use Express to build your next web application, "Express Web Application Development" will help you get started and take you right through to Express' advanced features. You will need to have an intermediate knowledge of JavaScript to get the most out of this book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The PERFECT book to learn Express 21. Juli 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I've tried many leaning resources for Express, from video tutorials to blog article series. This book has been the best, yet. I love how crystal clear the author explains every aspect. Along the way he makes sure that not only you build an app, but thoroughly understand all of the underlying concepts. Really, really great book. Want to discuss? I'm @ralf on Twitter and ADN.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Very thin on details 28. Oktober 2013

Extremely brief even for a Packt Publishing book. Not much more than you could get from the online docs. Pity there seems to be a dearth of solid books on Express..

5.0 von 5 Sternen Much needed book! 23. Juli 2013
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf
While expressJS is going strong and is an excellent tool for development, there was always a lack of a good reference book for beginners and all alike. When I first started to work on nodejs and found expressJS, the only way to proceed was to refer blog posts(including the one by the author) and forums to get a good working idea to use ExpressJS - which took me a good amount of time to navigate. Now a book from the renowned Hage Yaapa ( well known as @hacksparrow ) is a great guide to have.

What makes "Express Web" a very good read is hacksparrow's ability to start with a brief introduction and take you towards building your core concepts with every chapter and closing with excellent inputs on configuring expressJS for production - A truly well written book that builds your confidence chapter by chapter.

A must read and much needed book!

Can't say enough good things about this excellent and inspiring introduction to Express, which is about making Node.js web services. Writing style is friendly and the pace is perfect.
1.0 von 5 Sternen It's already outdated because it does not mention the latest version of Express 23. Juni 2014

Express 3.0 was built on top of Connect. Express 4.0 does not have Connect as a dependency. This book is stuck in the stone ages since it insists that Express is built on top of Connect.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great book for Express.js 16. September 2013
Von Nam Nguyen - Veröffentlicht auf
If you are looking for a good Express.js book, this is the one you should read. Certainly this book teaches me Express.js, from basic to advanced techniques. It has clear technical explanations. I like this book a lot because the author actually walks you through actual processes by teaching you what you should, should not do, how to organize all your projects, how to use configurations in your app. This is very important because after a certain level of complexity in your app, you will need to organize your routes.

The last three chapters are the best, it actually shows you how to make your app production-ready such as how to benchmark your app using siege command, how to make your app scale and performance well using cluster module, how to ensure maximum uptime for the app, and how to handle critical events.

I also recently found out that the author has a forum at [...] so you can post your questions. I did posted some questions and was able to get answers quickly
