Bekam eine Mail, dass die Ware beschädigt an den Absender zurück geschickt wurde, man aber leider keinen Ersatz für mich hätte... zumindest bekam ich mein Geld schnell zurück - insgesamt eher enttäuschend!

A Brand New Breakout Style for Beadweaving Which Everyone Will Love! 18. September 2013
Von Jean Baldridge Yates - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I went out of my way to get this book.
I didn't just want to read it (although as you will see, I loved reading it)!

I was very excited to review it as well.

So here is the fifty million dollar question:

What is different about this beadweaving book to make you want to own it, even if you have
an enviable library of beadweaving books?

EVERYTHING! All things good, inspiring and fun!

I know that others, like me, who love making jewelry will understand why as soon as they hold this book in their own hands. They will instantly see what I see. The elements which make up this book, Explorations in Beadweaving, are understandable, yet exceptional and different in a very cool way.

I would imagine that isn't easy to become a Bohemian Beadologist. Frankly, I think that Kelly Angeley may be the very first one! We her readers get a first class, very engaging look at her "laboratory"!
In fact, from her viewpoint, I would guess that there are numerous ways of looking at seed beading and beadweaving.

I can't say for sure.
However I do know that you will relate instantly to her truly unique approach, as well as her solid background in classic beadweaving.
Her teachers (and mentors) whom she mentions and thanks in the acknowledgments are Laura McCabe, Marcia DeCoster, and Sherry Serafini.
That is quite an impressive lineup! That surely must have encouraged a major talent like Kelly to fire on up, get ready and go!

On the other hand, you can have all the technique in the world and not have that certain something which causes a reader to fall for what you are offering when you write a book on jewelry design.

Kelly Angeley HAS that something. She has the expertise and the creativity needed to urge her readers on, and keep them looking forward for more. She truly is a great beadweaver and designer.

As well, if you are a bit rebellious about following instructions, and like to "play" when you create, you have the right teacher. It isn't crazy. The technique work is perfect and very well explained, with excellent diagrams which are easy to follow.
However, the author's outlook and perspective are intended to allow lots of room for the reader to
"get the idea", and then expand upon it.

This is what makes this beadweaving book so incredibly refreshing.

You get solid techniques, but you get it from a high flying acrobatic bead loving teacher who is
a one of a kind artist.

The beading in this book is freeform, but utilizes classic peyote, herringbone, RAW ("right angle weave") and bead embroidery stitches.

As the reader progresses along in the book, the author will encourage her improvisational approach by suggesting certain additions to the 19 projects offered. You might end up adding fringe, changing colors, and even choosing completely different materials.

Here is a good example to illustrate the teaching style of the author:

In Chapter Two, there is a necklace called "everything but the kitchen sink lariat".
The author explains this fab project in her opening description of it.

"When I first saw these vintage "hot" and "cold" porcelain sink faucet knobs, I knew that because they had large holes drilled into them. they were destined to become beads. Immediately I envisioned them hanging boldly from two tasseled ends of a lavishly long lariat rope. Adding bright chartreuse green and fuchsia was the perfect way to offset the basic black and white."

Oh, yeah!

When you see this lariat,
if you do not already know her, you will be directly introduced to Kelly Angeley and all of her full on amazingness.
You will instantly recognize this kind of freeform improvisational beading as breakout hip.

There is another reason I chose this project to illustrate something about
Explorations in Beadweaving.

Perhaps you don't want to make a lariat with hot and cold porcelain handles.
Perhaps that is not "YOU".
The interesting thing is, this project is an excellent and admirable demonstration of why the reader
should get this book.
Not only does this project employ the techniques of Picot, Tubular Herringbone Stitch, Stringing,
Fringe, and Ladder Stitch, it also employs something called Square Stitch Variation, or "Squaringbone".

The reader, if he or she has read the technique section, will be properly fascinated to try, fearlessly, all these cool techniques in one awesome project.

That is why I chose "everything but the kitchen sink lariat" as a pretty persuasive example of the newness the reader will get, the coolness which the reader will absorb, and the brilliance the reader will learn from, when Kelly Angeley is let loose to free you up and give you the confidence you
owe to yourself, if you are a beadweaver and are ready to rock.

The chapters contain tips, variations, diagrams and beautiful photographs.

The book has five full chapters of wonderfulness.
You are about to embark on a discovery like nothing you can possibly have seen before.
I assure you this is not just wild. It is perfectly balanced beauty. I just love what this
elegantly assured yet down to earth and humorous teacher can teach.
And teach she does. And you will love the benefits of her teaching!

Explorations in Beadweaving, Techniques for an Improvisational Approach
by Kelly Angeley is highly recommended! Go get it!

Kindle edition 30. November 2013
Von Christina - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verifizierter Kauf
I expect I will get a lot of pleasure from this book over time and there will be others who will cover the content in detail.

My focus is more on the medium. None of the images enlarge when selected, this is disappointing as I rely on the medium to give me that kind of functionality. The images have too much whitespace, as this is a book where detail is important it would be great to have more closeups. Some stock images of tools etc are low quality and appear pixelated which is disappointing.

The drawings in the instructions are clear, however they cannot be enlarged. My expectations are that I would get the same functionality that I experience with beading magazines in a book on beading. I look forward to the future when publishers understand the medium better.
