Kurzbeschreibung

Saving Caeorleia: Book One

In the distant future, humans wage war against the alien planet Caeorleia, with no tactic off-limits if it will help the humans get their hands on Caeorleia’s resources. Ask Ryker. He thought he volunteered for a simple experiment that would help his government in the war. He didn't realize sadistic doctors would turn him into the experiment—by injecting him with blood from a captured Caeorleian, Seral Iorflas.

Nor did Ryker realize he’d be sent to sabotage a planet full of the very beings his world is battling, beings who kill humans on sight. But then, thanks to the experiment that irrevocably changed him, he isn’t exactly human any longer—and with each passing day, as his blood bond with Seral strengthens, he’s less and less sure as to whose side he's on.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not really bad, but not good either 10. November 2014
Von Querleser
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I missed the description of the alien world, the alien culture, the differences and problems between human and alien nature. After the beginning, there was nothing alien-like and it could have been just a romance like the others. The main focus was on the (sexual) relationship of the two MCs. It was rather shallow (after the years of abuse Ryker immediately began a relationship, he has nearly no problems with his past) and superficial ... And Ryker was more the human pet than an equal partner.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Did not love or hate this book...indifferent 8. April 2014
Von Booklover - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I did not actively hate this book. Unfortunately, I'm a little indifferent to this book...which is, for me, worse than actually hating a book. At least with hating, there's some passion.

I love the concept of the storyline, but somewhere between conceiving the idea and bringing the characters to life, the writer seems to have fallen back to her beginnings as a fanfiction writer (there were multiples clues, namely in her use of using such tired phrases (littered in fanfiction writing) as 'the taller male', 'the shorter man'. (It's okay to use the character's name or even species. If only so people could remember the character's names).

What would have made this storyline more compelling would be an exploration of the difference in the alien's courting behavior vs human courting behavior, or biological quirks that don't exist in humankind. But no, there was kissing, stroking and anal penetration. I had actually anticipated the 'bedroom' scene very much as I expected some confusion or hesitation between the two, but nope. No hesitation...apparently alien males do exactly the same as human males.

Ultimately, this whole book was a cliche that is frequently found in fan-fiction writing where the miraculous power of the 'taller male's' male part has the ability to heal everything.

Other than the fact that the alien people typically were sans clothing and had some luminous tracings really didn't showcase a truly alien civilization.

2.0 von 5 Sternen immature and cliché 20. Februar 2014

I love science fiction and I love m/m stories. This book got me disappointed in both regards. I won't describe everything that felt wrong, I'll just list two main issues.

First, the story is so immature I sometimes felt I was reading a comic book for elementary school children. Of course, the plot was that of a popular fairy tale, where people are bound together by some external force for life, and right off the bat they are so in love they cannot live without each other. But even setting that aside, the events and actions of characters were unjustified or often based on some artificial presumption of the author.

The biggest thorn in my side was the groundless and unexplained declaration that the whole population of scientists, doctors and soldiers on the human side were outright sadists. That's just not believable, there is nothing to explain the strange phenomenon which is just repeated over and over again. Scientists and doctors in the book do not to behave like professionals of intellectual persuasion, who can be cruel, though not for the pleasure of causing pain but for the scientific purpose.

The scientists here are trigger happy blood thirsty maniacs – which is actually used to create the premise for the story. This leaves the whole story without any logical basis other than the author just wanted to write it this way. "Science" side of this fiction is very poorly done.

The second main problem for me was already mention in another review. One of the main characters could be replaced by a woman - change a name and add some breasts - and the story would not change one bit. It would even bee far more believable. One of my biggest disappointments happen when in m/m fiction one of the "m" is actually a female in all regards but the body.

5.0 von 5 Sternen I have to recommend this to those who love science fiction, brilliant storylines, wonderful characters, danger, betrayal, great 29. Januar 2014

Ryker thought he was signing up for a simple experiment, living for 5 years in a dome which mimic’s an M class planet’s environment to see if the planet was worth fighting for… instead he is abused and experimented on and then left on the planet to spy. Ryker is sacrificed so the scientists and the military can find a way to destroy the Caeorleiran’s and take the plant for the human’s. Now bonded to Seral Ryker has to learn to trust, as he falls for the Ceaorlerian but danger lurks as the human’s continue their war.

Well guys this is a true treat, cracking open this book was like being taken to the far reaches of space to witness a human man who has been used, abused and experimented on by his own government being taken in by an alien race and finding home. This is truly an incredible story that has a damaged hero, a determined lover, unseen danger, betrayal, a plan to end war and an unexpected rescue… I couldn’t put this book down till I’d read the last page in the wee hours with a grumpy hubby whining about having to get up for work soon.

Ryker was desperate when he spotted the ad for an ecological study, it sounded ideal but soon enough he found the truth… the scientist were sadists and his life would be changed forever. Seral was captured by the Nelhos, humans, and experimented on, the humans managed to link him to a male who is his tzui, beloved, but Seral cannot blame his tzui for the circumstances as the male has been badly abused. These two make a wonderful couple but they have many hurdles in their relationship, the biggest being that Ryker is no longer human, but not quite Caeorleiran either. They face adversity and disbelief as they try to find a way to stop the war and the dangers don’t just come from the humans.

This is an incredibly written story, we are pulled in from the first page as we feel Ryker’s fear and pain, we follow along as Ryker learns to trust his isit, beloved, and finds a home and family he never had. We see some brilliant surprise twists that really knock your socks off, we see some great action as Seral, and Ryker try to put an end to the human threat. There are many characters that we meet who play some great parts, the ones we love and trust, the ones who seem dodgy and sneaky and the ones who hide behind a mask until the last moment before showing their true colors. We also manage to meet two of Ryker’s fellow volunteers who will play their own parts in future stories *I can’t wait*.

I have to recommend this to those who love science fiction, brilliant storylines, wonderful characters, danger, betrayal, great settings, a great relationship with its own problems and the promise of more to come. Oh and if you are like me and want the next great story now, then head over to Alicia Nordwell’s site and take a peek at Adverse Effects Dade’s story in serial… be quick I am sure it won’t be long before it’s snapped up and taken down :-) .

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good book, but not great. 12. April 2014
Von Mordkan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

It has been a while sense I read this book and now when I think, it wasn't that great as I first thought. It is a good MM read and enjoyable, but it falls on those 'love at first sight' books that are starting to annoy me. It isn't entirely love at first sight, but the main characters are bound to each other and find each other desirable.

Instead of slowly getting to know each other and falling in love, they simply have to get along. It is a matter of survival for both of them.

If you can ignore the love at first sight and the humans are evil, then the book is enjoyable. There are twists into the plot that I didn't see and they made me blink couple of times. It also made me wonder why, as there was nothing showing before hand. Either the character was too good at acting or ... anyway. I wouldn't mind reading more books from the writer.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great read! 29. Januar 2014

New author for me but the cover and sample was intriguing enough for me to give it a go and boy, am I glad I did! Portia did a great review of the book so I won't go over it again but I truly enjoyed reading about the depth of love between the two MCs. Not so angst filled that you wanna crawl into a corner and cry but enough insight about what Ryker had to endure to feel his pain and root for his HEA. A nice mix of mystery, adventure, and hot bedroom scenes! I hope Ms Nordwell will make this into a series so we can visit this planet and spend more time with this wonderful cast of characters.
