Kurzbeschreibung

A Portrait of an American Icon

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis-better known as Jackie O. to the tabloids, "the deb" to the Kennedy clan, and the 35th First Lady to historians-is easily one of the most recognizable Presidential wives. She remains the model of the proper American woman. But what was Jackie O. hiding behind those big, dark shades?

From her New York society upbringing to her time in the White House to her days spent as a Doubleday editor, this is the ultimate biography of a woman everyone recognized but few knew. Did you know that:

  • Her first job was as the "Inquiring Camera Girl" for the Washington Times-Herald?

  • Before she started dating Jack Kennedy, she hadn't even voted in a national election?

  • She was the only family member strong enough to remove Robert Kennedy from life-support measures after he was shot?

  • She asked Rose Kennedy for her blessing before she married Aristotle Onassis?

She was American royalty and is now an American icon. The Everything Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Book delivers everything you always wanted to know about this captivating woman.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Breadth, not depth 3. Juli 2008

This is a good book if you're just starting to research, or learn, about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The format is chronological; it includes all of the major events of her life spanning childhood to her final days in New York City. Each section is about two to four paragraphs with photos to support much of the text. The content, while being thorough, is sparce due to the book's attempt to list everything (ergo, the title) that encompassed her life. There are, however, some interesting trivial facts about her (and President Kennedy) that make reading this book fun to read, as these tidbits of information aren't usually included in many of the more in-depth biographies on her. Overall, this is a good book by the Everything Series to launch someone's study of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

3.0 von 5 Sternen A good starting point 1. Juni 2009

This is a basic, "just the facts ma'am" biography of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The book covers her life from beginning to end, in chronological order, but does not go into any depth about any part of her life. Each chapter is only a dozen or so pages long. There are photographs throughout, but many are of poor quality, and they are the sort of standard Kennedy photos that most readers have probably seen many times.

If you are a devout Jackie buff, the only reason to purchase this book is for the bits of trivial details that are sprinkled throughout. I have read a lot about Jackie but encountered things I had not seen in any other Jackie bio. Nothing earth shattering, though.

I think this book would be most appreciated by those with only a minimal knowledge of Jacqueline Onassis who want a very basic, fact-based biography without all of the gossip, speculation and psychoanalysis.

I am a huge Jackie-O. fan! I met her as a child, and she was utterly gracious, and charming, in Hyannisport, on a steamy summer morning near the Kennedy Compound.I am learning facts about her I did not know before.I truly admire her class, taste, and love of country, as well as her dedication to her husband and children. She was quite a lady, America's queen! If you admire Jackie, for sure, you will enjoy this book.

2.0 von 5 Sternen There are better biographies out there than this one 22. März 2012

If you are just looking for information about "Jackie O." you will enjoy this book. It presents lots of facts in a relatively organized manner. However, that's really all there is to it, just a chronological listing of the facts.

I think I read that the author was a journalist and I would believe it based on this book. The writing style is choppy and brusque, and reminds me of a newspaper article, which is fine for news, but is a little disconcerting in a book.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Very inspiring and insightful, I enjoyed this book. 8. Dezember 2013

Jackie Kennedy was an inspiration to millions of women, during her lifetime and after. I always thought she was an inspiration.
