 Zsu Dever has been involved in the restaurant business most of her life. She hails from a long line of culinary professionals and restaurateurs. The publisher of the food blog, Zsu’s Vegan Pantry, she is passionate about teaching new vegans how to succeed with their newly chosen diet and become lifelong vegans. A vegan for nearly fifteen years, Zsu is a homeschooling mother of three teenagers and resides in San Diego, CA.

I love love love Zsu's blog and have been following it for some time now. She presents easy to make dishes with easy to find ingredients and writes recipes clearly so you can easily make any of them with great success. I love this book, it is bright and full of color photos that make you want to get cooking. It is always a good sign! The recipes cover everything from basics that you can make yourself (or buy of course but it's nice to have the option since it is usually cheaper and then you can control the ingredients as well) like seitan, stocks, mayo, bacon tofu, blackened tempeh and ranch dressing (the best ranch dressing) to casseroles, side dishes, desserts and soups.

Most recipes are quick and easy with a few that might take a bit longer. It is full of great information about technique and ingredients and has loads of pictures! Here are some of my favourites by chapter:

Basics--seitan, stocks, broth powder, baked tofu, mayo, ranch dressing, bacon tofu, blackened tempeh

Soups--Creamy Tomato-Basil, Hot and Sour Soup with Bok Choi, Split Pea and two different Chowders

Sandwiches--Egg and Chicken-Free Salad, Mushroom Po'boy, Greek Gyros, Banh Mi Burgers, California Clubs, Portobello Fajitas w Roasted Poblano Cream Sauce, Deli Reuben

Salads--German Potato, Muffaletta-Inspired Salad, Seven Layer Tex Mex, Creamy Macaroni, Buttermilk Coleslaw

Mains: Maple-Chipotle Crispers, Meatless Pies in Buttermilk Biscuits, Glazed Holiday Roast, Country Fried Portobellos or Seitan, Vegan Meatloaf

Pasta and Grains--Mushroom Stroganoff, Pad Thai, Pasta Primavera, Scampi Pasta, Chili Mac

Casseroles--Baked Eggplant Parmesan, Tater Tot Casserole, Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, Spinach and Bean Enchiladas

Sides & Snacks--Classic Hummus, Spinach Artichoke Dip, Nachos (great nacho sauce and there is a gf version too)

Breakfast & Brunch--Tex-Mex Migas, Fried Vegan Omelet, Classic Style Benedict, Country Hash, Southern Biscuits and Gravy, French Toast with Apple and Candied Nut Topping

Desserts & Bakery--Fudge Brownies, Caramel Sauce (this is my favourite), Apricot and Raisin Rugelach, Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting, Soft Pretzels, Blueberry Scones.

I highly recommend this book! You won't be disappointed.

I've made quite a few of the recipes (somewhere around 25) and overall I am very happy with the results. There is a lot of variety in the recipes, from basics like broth mix and mayonnaise; to how to use tofu, seitan, and soy curls; and new twists on old favourites (casseroles and soups reminiscent of those many Americans grew up with). Some of the ones I liked best were the Hungarian Paprika Potatoes, Whole Grain Rice Pilaf, and the Classic-Style Benedict for the savoury side; and for the sweet side the blueberry scones win, with the carrot cake coming as a close second.

If you are new to vegan cooking, this would be a great book for you as the recipes are fairly simple and there are no super wacky ingredients called for. Perhaps best of all, the book is loaded with photographs. I'm a visual cook and I like to know what a recipe is supposed to look like before I start! I highly recommend this book.

i am just transitioning into vegan foods and it hasnt been easy getting my family to try these foods.....they have to taste good and look good and many fall short....but i bought this cookbook because it says that this is the real foods that vegans eat......it has lots of really good recipes....i've made several of them and they are all good so far.....there are alot of vegan cookbooks out there but many of them have very fancy foods.....foods that i wouldn't normally eat.....the meals and dishes in this book are easy to make - taste like real food and my family has been happy with everything i've made so far.....i very rarely post a review on a product but this cookbook is that good...

Everyday Vegan Eats is one of the best cookbooks in my vegan library. Zsu’s recipes are easy but delicious, comforting yet unique. In addition to the huge collection of recipes, the book boasts many beautiful color photographs to whet your appetite.

Some of the recipe offerings include:

* Bacon Tofu—salty, smoky, crispy, and utterly addictive, this amazing bacon substitute is perhaps my favorite recipe in the book.
* Baked Macaroni and Cheese—it takes me back to my mom’s comfort food; it’s the best vegan macaroni and cheese I’ve ever tried (and I’ve tried many).
* Fudge Brownies—these are the brownies I thought I’d never be able to have again after going vegan; they’re moist and crumbly with an intensely chocolate flavor that’s enhanced by a surprise ingredient.
* Caramel Sauce—don’t let caramel sauce intimidate you like it did me for years; Zsu’s recipe walks you through the process step by step for a yummy caramel good enough to drench all kinds of desserts.
* Blueberry Scones—full of berry and lemon flavor, these delicately sweet scones are easy to make and easy to eat.
* Cheesy Summer Squash Sauté—a creamy, cheesy sauce dresses savory summer squash for a quick and nutritious supper.

I have been following Zsu's web site for some time now, and can easily say that 99.9% of everything I've made using her recipes has been awesome.
Zsu has a knack at combining straightforward directions with mouthwatering creations.
Her book is a treasure not to be missed.
Some of the more popular entries from the blog have found a home here and there are many new and exciting ones as well.
The photos are gorgeous, and the recipes are easy to follow resulting in healthy scrumptious meals.
This book takes everyday basics to a new level of vegan culinary heights.
A must have for new and experienced cooks alike.
