So, only the first two discs are about learning Salsa. Depending on your previous experience with dancing, you may need more or less practise. Repeating lessons with a DVD is easy. If you master what is demonstrated, then you are certainly no absolute beginner anymore. However, to my reference, it just brings you up to a beginners level. What's more, know what kind of Salsa style you want to learn. As I'm not an expert I can not give you the name of this style, but its basic movement is with 3 steps and a tap. Another style is 3 steps with a rest. Let alone the difference in more complex movements.
In a dance school a new lesson is likely to start with rehearsing what you have already learned. This is also the case on the DVD's. To my judgement a waste, as each part on a DVD can be replayed as often as needed.
On each DVD there is only about one hour of material. So, all material would nearly fit on 1 disc instead of 4. The other 3 and all the packaging are waste.
Video editing is poor, as many parts end with loud sound clicks.
The camera angle feature of the DVD technology is not used, which is a very usefull instructional feature in this case.
For a 4 box set, my expectations were considarably higher, than what was actually delivered. Making it too expensive too. Next to all this, I wanted to improve on the New York Salsa style and this is definitely something else.
Well, I hope that the above will help anybody else to make a more informed buying decision than I did.
Enjoy Salsa!
