Laser Focused On Using GTD In Evernote 17. November 2011
Von Brooks Duncan - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a slightly-off-the-rails GTD devotee and someone who uses Evernote every day to, as the company says, remember everything.

Not surprisingly, I was excited when I read in an Evernote LinkedIn group that this book was in the works, and I rushed out and bought it the day that it was released.

Since I've had time to digest it for a bit, I have some thoughts:

1) The author starts by going into why we need a system like this. He doesn't just dive in to the technical bits. This is a great approach that many self-published authors skip. You can't truly tackle a problem unless you face why you're having the problem in the first place.

2) I really like the approach to using tags. Tags are a double-edged sword in Evernote (or any system really), and he has some good advice for managing your tags and what to do if they've gotten out of control.

3) I like how he went step-by-step with screenshots into how he sets his system up, and he very wisely includes some use cases so we can see how his recommended system handles different situations.

4) Being a paperless nerd, I was intrigued by how he uses Evernote with his scanner to go paperless. Very different than how I do it, but it is always good to get different perspectives.

If you are looking for a general guide on how to use Evernote, this will not be the book for you. If you are looking at a general beginner guide on GTD, this will not be the book for you (I hear there is already one called Getting Things Done), but if you are wanting something that is specifically about how to use GTD in Evernote, it is pretty hard to go wrong for $5.

Clear explanation of how the author uses Evernote for GTD 16. November 2011
Von David M. Ward - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This book doesn't show you how to become an expert in Evernote or GTD, nor does it require you to have mastered either. What it does, and does well, is show you how the author uses them together to manage his GTD workflow. His system isn't for everyone but I use (a variation of) it as my sytem. It's simple and flexible and it works.

This is a quote from a review I did on my blog:

"If you are a newcomer to Evernote or GTD, Dan's book will sell you on why you need to be using them; it won't tell you everything you need to know about how. What it will do is show you how you can use them together to create a complete system for getting things done."

[...]

If you don't know anything about GTD, the book isn't for you. If you like GTD but have been frustrated with implementing it, Dan's book will open your eyes to the power of using Evernote, as many of us now do.

David Ward

P.S. Dan mentions my blog in his book but as you'll see in my full review, Dan used several sources in creating his system.

For people who can think 16. November 2011
Von kevincumbria - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Whether or not you get value from this book depends on whether you can think for yourself or if you just want to be spoon fed. Admittedly you need some GTD background, but one of the key things about the way Daniel writes is that it is not prescriptive. He doesn't say this is the only way, but encourages you to adapt your way of organising your life into the framework of what he is outlining.
