Johnson is such an amazingly talented guitarist. I really have fun learning his songs and showing them to my students. This book was painstakingly done. One song, "Soul Surprise", has up to 17 guitar parts and is 39 pages long. Many songs have small textual cues as to how to duplicate what Johnson is doing, such as, changing pick-ups or using the unique features of either Fender or Gibson-style guitars to achieve a desired effect. Wow.
You'll get way too much here! There's the free-form "Awaken", the harmonic sequences in "Gem", the sound effects interlude in "Brilliant Room" and of course all the richly melodic and blazing solos that Johnson is known for. Eric Johnson is also well used to including perfectly chosen chords in his songs and even his solos. Plenty of that here too. To me, this album is as good [or better] than anything he's done before. This book lets you see for yourself how he's grown as a musician and as a composer.
It would have been worth the purchase price just for "Fatdaddy", "Texas" or "Austin".
The transcribers deserve a vacation after this. Excellent job!
