August 2014
Von Naenna
Format:Kindle Edition
a) "erwachsener" irgendwie.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Steht Band 1 in nichts nach!! 7. Februar 2014
Von Linda
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Verifizierter Kauf
(Warnung Spoiler)

Summary (from Goodreads):

They thought they had escaped. They were wrong.

After fleeing the Branch with Sam, Cas, and Nick, Anna is trying to make sense of the memories resurfacing from her old life. At the same time, she's learning how to survive in hiding, following Sam's rules: Don't draw attention to yourself. Always carry a weapon. Know your surroundings. Watch your back.

Jennifer Rush delivers a thrilling sequel to Altered in a novel packed with mysteries, lies, and surprises that are sure to keep readers guessing until the last page is turned.

What I Liked:

Oh, how I waited for you, Erased. It's been a very long time since I read Altered. I think it was the first book I read this year - it's fitting that Erased will be one of my last books read for 2013 (#167 of about 180 books projected). What an amazing series! One of the best things about these books is that while I really remember Altered (I re-read that book so many times), I jumped right into Erased, without having to re-read Altered.

I'll freely admit that I loved the first book more than this book. Altered was SO AMAZING. It's definitely going on my top ten of 2013 at the end of the year. This book (Erased), to me, wasn't as awesome as its predecessor - but I'm not saying it was awful or anything. This book is fabulous! An awesome sequel to one of my favorite series. And a thriller, at that! I don't read too many thrillers, unfortunately.

A few months have passed, between book one and book two (I believe it is two months... I hope I'm not completely off). Anna is now struggling with flashbacks, just like Nick and Sam had been. She remembers bits and pieces of her old life, with her sister, and sometimes the boys. But her flashbacks are often painful... indicating that something terrible happened in her past, something that the Altered program really did not want her to remember.

The plot of this book follows Anna and her flashbacks. Two people from Anna's past reenter her life, and one key person from the program shows up as well. Things are not as they seem, with the program, the flashbacks, the people from Anna's past. Trust no one seems to be the general mantra...

I feel like not as much happened in this book, like in Altered. However, the plot was very interesting, and I felt engaged in the story. I wanted to know what Anna was remembering. I wanted to know what was up with the Altered program. I wanted to know more about Nick. It's kind of awesome how Rush is making Nick more and more of a primary character in this series - and I believe the third book in this series is in Nick point-of-view. I'm not one hundred percent sure though.

The romance in this book is present, but not as much as it was in book one. Book one didn't have much romance in it either - meaning, Rush didn't make it the forefront of the novel. I like this though. But in this novel, the romance is present even less. There is a distance between Sam and Anna, but we know why, as the story goes on. I liked the romance in this book, but there aren't many swoony scenes in this book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It's definitely a great sequel - probably one of my favorites. I would make this one a priority, if you liked Altered. I LOVED Altered, and I'm glad I got the chance to read Erased. But hey - it is totally worth the wait!

What I Did Not Like:

I can't really pinpoint what exactly I did not like about this book. I think it's because this book is on the short side, and while a good amount of action happens, it feels like there wasn't much to it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the story and the plot. But I feel like less happens in this book than in book one.

Also, Dani. Shaking my head right now. You are silly, Anna.

Would I Recommend It:

DEFINITELY! I loved Altered, and I think Rush does book one justice with Erased. Book one was better in my opinion, but book two is so great. If you read and liked/loved book one, and then you will definitely enjoy book two. And then you'll be joining me in begging for book three. Yes - begging!

Rating:

4.5 stars -> rounded down to 4 stars. A really great sequel to this series! I cannot wait to read the third book.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Potential Love Triangle was a REAL MISSED OPPORTUNITY 7. Januar 2014
Von The Book Runner - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Verifizierter Kauf
You have got to read Altered first if you want to have a clue what is going on in this story. It is another great story full of exciting action, friendship and not being able to trust anyone. The romance between Anna and Sam was too paltry, just like in Altered and I, personally, hope Jennifer Rush is able to spice it up a little in the next installment. The book description suggests a love triangle, which really could have been explored, but, sadly was not. A real missed opportunity in my opinion.

Sam, Nick, Cas and Anna have been in a safe house for the last two months recovering from Trev's betrayal and the shootout that transpired at the Branch. Anna and Sam are now pretty much a couple but the romance is on the "G" rating and really could use a boost! Nick is still scowling and hurting as he remembers more of his own past, but won't share it with Anna and continues to act like a jerk. Cas plays a comedic if very minor part in this story.

Security footage at their local grocer shows someone looking for Anna and being kidnapped by Riley. Anna is determined to come to the rescue and enlist the help of Trev who left them an emergency number along with the files he gave them. He is able to tell them which farm house to search, but they are ambushed and barely get out with their lives. They rescue three boys and the person who had been looking for Anna, but the boys they rescued turn on them and they believe the Branch has come up with a way to activate the assassins from a distance. This makes Sam believe that the best way to protect Anna is to separate. Anna and Nick are supposed to go hide, but Anna wants to find her uncle and see what he knows about the night her parents were murdered.

At a very early point the reader knows who the betrayer is and wants Anna to just wake up before people she loves gets hurt, but instead she is lied to and more memories about her and Nick come back to her and even more about her sister Dani. Anna is confused and wants to trust her boys, but family gets in the way.

It is a good thing that there is more to come in the Altered Series as more mysteries about The Branch are revealed but not enough to make any sense. Jennifer Rush's says, "As of right now, my 3rd YA will be told from the point of view of seventeen-year-old Callie who had a run-in with Nick before the farmhouse lab. She remembers him, but his memories of her are still murky. I can also tell you that Nick will definitely be the love interest of this story. So there will be more shirtless Nick scenes, and some kissing too." (from Jennifer Rush's website).

This is apparently the end to Anna's story The action and the writing is very similar to the first one, so if you liked it, you will like this one too. I thought there could be more romance and discovery of why they had all been mind-swiped, but maybe in book 3.

There is a novella called Forged that shares Dani and Sam's romance. Personally I would have liked a novella about Sam and Anna's romance as it was too bland in the book. I don't want to see him being more romantic to her sister or kissing her as he hardly kissed Anna and was supposedly in love with her. Why is that authors keep writing novellas about characters that were supposed to be dead? Veronica Rossi did it with Liv and Sara J. Maas did it with Sam in her Throne of Glass series. Too sad.

There was two kisses and a suggestion of sexual activity.

Would I/Did I buy it? Yes
Would I read it again? Maybe
Would I recommend it to friends? Sure, for fans of book 1

3.0 von 5 Sternen Step down from Altered 8. Januar 2014
Von KVB99 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Anna and the boys are now free of the Branch, at least for now, and in hiding. The focus of this book is on Anna and the boys figuring out their past and staying out of the clutches of the Branch. While there is action, particularly at the end, this is mostly an amnesia mystery story. I found the first part of the book to be very slow and whereas there was a romantic element to Altered, there's not much of it here. Sam and Anna are together in a way an old married couple are. There was some effort to introduce romantic tension (Dani puts in an appearance, Nick softens), but nothing really comes of it. So, this book stands or falls on the basic plot of Anna piecing together her back story about her sister and her parents. It was mildly engaging, but not at all compelling. Instead of focusing on the past, it would have been better to have a plot that moved forward to a future. Finally, the action scenes were a little shallow. In this book, Anna has now morphed into a super warrior, who chalks up quite a body count before the end, coldly killing people who stand in her way right and left, all of which she seems to take in stride, as if it's just another day at the office. By the end of the book, I wasn't really interested in what happened to her next. The door is left open for another book, but if there is one, I think I'll pass.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Swoon-Worthy Ending To Sam & Anna's Story 7. Januar 2014
Von Step Into Fiction - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
If you have NOT read Altered, please read with caution. There are some spoilers that were unavoidable. Proceed with caution . . .

Not matter what, Trev is and will always be my favorite character from these books. No matter how he betrayed them in Altered, I can't let that stop me. He's so likeable (loveable, actually) and he's a character that stuck in my head since I read the first book a year ago. My wish is for him to get his own book, he deserves one, right?

Nick and Cas are a close second. I may be the only one here but I'm not the biggest fan of Sam. He's boring. Compared to the other guys, he's lacking a personality. I know, not very fair of me but it's how I feel. He's just not as snarky, mysterious, humorous or anything - he's just a leader and that's that. He's a good leader, don't get me wrong and he's good for Anna but just not my favorite. Though, I did enjoy him a lot more in the first book; he still pales in comparison to the guys he was kept in the lab with.

That being said, I loved this book. In some cases more than Altered but in others, not as much. We'll start with my dislikes because it's a small list; I didn't get the same feeling of 'oh my god, this is amazing' while reading. Maybe because I know what to expect or just maybe because it wasn't as much interaction with them as a group? Which brings me to my next dislike - which shouldn't come as a surprise; not enough Trev. A minor dislike, I know, but as a die-hard Trev fan, it's a big deal (though, I understand his lack of appearances). I just miss him so much and come on, so does Anna. But with him missing, the vibe on the group of them is just off balanced.

What I loved? More Nick. He's a tough pill to swallow, at times but we learn more about his past and more importantly, his connection to Anna. It's fascinating and I wanted more. Thankfully, we'll get my wish of wanting more next year when he gets his book which I'm really excited for!

I really loved the flashbacks from Anna's past as her memories slowly start returning. It adds mystery to not only the story but the reader; it adds mystery along with tons of excitement. There's tons more action, which also adds a lot more adventure to our journey, as well. I know, you're probably wondering how there's more action when the first book was packed with it but I'm telling you, there is so much more. Hardly a dull moment in this book (unless Sam is talking...kidding, kidding...sort of...).

I'm glad these books aren't ending, even though Anna and Sam's journey has. Two books is just not enough of these characters and this world that Jennifer Rush has created. If the covers don't grab your attention then the description of these books definitely should. They don't do the book justice but they grab your attention and that's the point (plus, hot shirtless guys on covers? You can't go wrong there!).
