5.0 von 5 Sternen Schön, einfühlsam und nie langweilig 10. Mai 2014

Mai 2014
Von Leseratte
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

4.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful Retelling of Beauty and the Beast 23. April 2014
Von Eva
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
There are several plot summaries in the other reviews, so I’ll just tell you what I liked and didn’t like about the book.

What I liked:
The characters are very vivid. They all have their strengths, flaws, and quirks. Even secondary characters are fleshed out and believable. The characterizations are consistent, the dialogue flows easily, and the daily interactions between the characters are fun.
I especially enjoyed the relationship between the two main characters. Their love story moves slowly (at least compared to many other romance books out there) but steadily which makes it all the more believable. Both Louvan and Ballard have survived a lot of painful events in their lives. They’re strong and capable and feel a great deal of respect for each other. Watching them fall in love is truly a joy. And in this case I really mean ‘love’, not ‘lust’. They share quite a strong physical attraction, and there are several explicit love scenes, but it’s easy to see that their feelings for each other run deep and aren’t just limited to appearances or superficialities. They’re a couple I definitely see going strong even in hard times and after the first honeymoon feeling has worn off.

What I didn’t like:
Not much I can say here. I would have liked to know a little more about the world the characters live in. We only get a few small glimpses every once in a while. That’s a minor complaint though. The book is predominantly a romance after all, and the world building is supposed to take a back seat to the love story.
There were a few small typos/spelling issues but nothing particularly distracting.

Conclusion:
This is a beautiful love story. I can only recommend this book and will definitely check out the author’s other works.

5.0 von 5 Sternen This Is One The Best Fantasy Romance Novels You Will Ever Read 19. Dezember 2013
Von Douglas C. Meeks - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a long awaited treat for me since I read Grace Draven's Master of Crows about 3 years ago in paperback then bought it again in Kindle format. It has been in my All Time Top 5 ever since and I kept waiting for more since most authors drop new books every few months or so. This took a bit longer and it was worth the wait.

Louvaen has been both mother and sister to Cinnia since her younger sister was a child, now Gavin has appeared and her sister seems to have fallen for the handsome young man. Being the self appointed guardian of her sister's honor she is not likely to be fooled by his charm but things happen to change that, not the least of which is meeting the lad's father Ballard who has been cursed.

This is an original story which uses the basic framework of the Beauty and The Beast fairy tale to convey an amazing story of love, devotion, obsession and magic. You have a pair of tragic heroes, a pair of damsels in distress, an old curse, an evil villain and a few thorns. The story is riveting and the main characters and most of the secondary characters are fully written and deeply part of the story.

So we have to try to break the curse, keep their father out of jail and the hands of the evil villain, keep an eye on her sister's honor and find a way to live happily ever after. Quite a tall order and it may not happen at all, this is no fairy tale, it is filled with hatred and evil still having power. The touch of "love conquers all" is still a great read even if well worn a bit .

At the core of all of this is a slow story of romance and growing devotion that will be the key to most everything so if you are looking for somebody to jump into bed or passionate embraces in the first 25% of the book, sorry this is a slow moving deeply detailed romance which you will remember long after you turn the last page. This is why we read these type books, this is an exceptional story told by an talented writer and you will hate to see this book end. Trust me. 5 Star materiel all the way and it will probably be one to read over and over in years to come.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great characters bring this touching twist to the Beauty and the Beast fantasy romance to life 29. Dezember 2013
Von melindeeloo - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I loved much of Entreat Me. The characters in the leads and the supporting cast are strong and the relationship development is wonderful and touching. I also liked the Beauty and the Beast theme when it melded with a bit of Taming of the Shrew - a bit less so when shades of the Disney version bled through before the final climax.

Where this worked a bit less well for me was the flashback scenes to the leading man's past - most of it was revealed to the the leading lady so in the later part of the book these scenes didn't really seem necessary to me (and slowed the story down.)

Despite the nits, I loved the story of a cursed Lord (in this case two cursed Lords) and the women who are strong and open enough to love them anyway. Now, I hope Draven still writes the sequel she had in mind for Master of Crows - or heck anything else for that matter - I am sucker for stories with great character development and she has that down to an art.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Enjoyable Read 5. April 2014
Von Jace King - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I wasn't sure about this book initially because it's not my typical genre. I like to read romance, but I've never read re-tellings of common fairy tales. I was concerned the story would be too predictable being a version of Beauty & the Beast, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. It turned out to be a very enjoyable read. Some of the story is a bit predictable because of the common fairy tale elements, but for the most part it is a unique story with well developed characters. I agree with some of the other reviewers that some of the vernacular didn't seem consistent with the time period. I'm not sure what year it's supposed to be, but it's a time of castles, magic, horse-back riding, and women who don't wear pants- so I'm taking a wild guess and assuming it is some long ago time period. Yet occasionally you have the characters using more modern day phrases. It's a minor issue, and didn't really bother me or interfere with the story much, but worth noting. Other than that I liked the book a lot. I can't *quite* say I loved it, which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. I would recommend this book as a worthy read to anyone who enjoys romance.
5.0 von 5 Sternen A great beauty and the beast adaption. 8. August 2014

This is my second book by Grace Draven. Although this was not as epic as Master of Crows, it is still a lovely historical fantasy romance with the Beauty and the Beast theme.

Grace Draven writing style was descriptive and flowery and she loves to include some element of magic with a touch of humor. We have a feisty, prickly and sharp-tongued heroine who was no lady. Louvaen Duenda was a widow and now she had taken upon caring for her father and her younger sister, Cinnia. She mothered Cinnia as if she was a child and threaten to put on a chastity belt on her. Virgin is so-oh-troublesome.

When Cinnia runaway with her beau, Gavin, the heir of Ketach Tor, Louvaen decided to track down her sister and drag her back home. The sisters were actually looking for ways to save her father from prison due to his debts to the evil Jimelin (not sure did I spell correctly), so Cinnia thought borrowing the money from Gavin would be a brilliant idea.

This lead to Louvaen having to spend a winter chaperoning Cinnia during their stay at Ketach Tor's castle (or more like a fortress), while allowing Gavin time to properly court her sister into marriage. The old times rule of propriety was so weird. Anyway, this gave the opportunity for Louvaen to meet Gavin's father, the Lord Ballard who was heavily disfigured due to a curse that was impose on the family.

There were some flashback on how the curses occurred and Ballard was no hero and I believe he truly regretted his life choices. Both he and his son suffered during the flux high tide, with his son falling sick and Ballard himself turning into a mindless Beast that had him locking himself in a dungeon.

The household had a fun camaraderie. We have Ambrose, the sorcerer who Louvaen kept fighting with, Magda the lead housekeeper and some other girls.

Ambrose and Ballard had been cracking their head trying to break the curse for centuries and to no avail. They put all their hopes on Gavin's success in finding a wife to break it.

"So the 'true love's kiss' myth is just that."
"Maybe instead of true love's kiss, it's true love's swiving in the hayloft."

I had been reading too many Beauty and the Beast retelling till I embarrassed myself. But Entreat Me was among one of the memorable one for me. Louvaen was instantly likable with her no-nonsense lively character. She was such a protective sister, imposing all the no touching rule to her and Gavin, watching them like a hawk, but when she was with Ballard, she turned into this sexually confident woman who know what she wants.

"There's something about you. Captivating yet forbidden. I feel as if I'm corrupting an achorite but can't help myself."

Ballard was an intriguing character. We slowly learnt about his past from the flashback and he might not be a honorable man prior, but his love for his son was so strong. He had gave up hope on finding love or even a companion with his horrible disfigurement. Of course, he felt self conscious and tried to cover himself up. Therefore, when Louvaen was being nice to him and manage to look past his disfigurement, he was simply elated. From her initial interest in caring for his well-being, it turn into something more for both of them. At times, the poor man was lucky he didn't suffer a heart attack from dealing with the feisty woman.

The only parts where I find it bored and skim the pages was when Louvaen went home to deal with his father's problem towards the last quarter. I don't know why I just don't bother to know what was happening there. I just want to get back to Ballard.

I love the little illustration we have at every beginning of the chapter. It helps me to visualize Louvaen and Ballard together. Recommended to anyone who loves a Beauty and the Beast retelling.
4.0 von 5 Sternen Steamy Beauty and the Beast retelling! 24. August 2014
Von Carla - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

How come I didn't know about this until a certain scene happened, and another, and another, and another? You can't imagine my shock---a good shock, though.

Loved the badass heroine, Louvaen, and her practical, no-drama, excuse-you-I-ain't-no-damsel-in-distress personality. Not to mention the fact that she's like a she-wolf with a pup regarding her baby sister, Cinnia, and how Cinnia loves her back.

The author did a great job creating these characters, this world, and mixing them up with the classic elements of the fairytale. I found myself smiling every time I recognized something or someone.

She also did an amazing job retelling the curse, and dealing with the "Beast's" disfigurement. I mean, imagine writing a steamy version of Beauty and the Beast and having to figure out how to make the hero beastly, without turning this story into something... let's say *uncomfortable* for the reader. Draven nailed it though, the romance is lovely and hot.

Recommended, of course! It's so rare to find beautifully written fairytale retellings that feel like completely new stories--I know because I look for them constantly. Come to me, my beauties.
