Synopsis

As Emily Starr grows up on New Moon Farm, she struggles to achieve success as a writer and find love.

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in Clifton, Prince Edward Island, in 1874. Educated at Prince Edward College, Charlottetown, and Dalhousie University, she embarked on a career in teaching. From 1898 until 1911 she took care of her maternal grandmother in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, and during this time wrote many poems and stories for Canadian and American magazines.

Montgomery’s first novel, Anne of Green Gables, met with immediate critical and popular acclaim, and its success, both national and international, led to seven sequels. More autobiographical than the books about Anne is the trilogy of novels about another Island orphan, Emily Starr.

In 1911 Montgomery married the Rev. Ewan Macdonald, a Presbyterian clergyman, and they lived in Ontario, where he was the pastor of parishes in Leaskdale and, later, in Norval. They retired to Toronto in 1936.

Lucy Maud Montgomery died in Toronto in 1942.

The first thing I must say, is that I absolutely love this book. In myopinion, Emily's Quest is the best out of the three books. I cantotally connect with her feelings, her confusion, 'white nights', and depressions. This book is so true to life. I read a little about L. M. Montgomery, and found out that she had periods of big depressions. I think she must have written out some of her own feelings in this book. I read it in one day, and could not for the life of me put it down....I also fell head over heels in love with Teddy Kent. That's is really a guy you just want to pick out of the book and give a big hug to.... Well, I must say, I do make myself think this story is real. That shows just how excellent a writer L. M. is. The book shows the dark sides of life, and even though it's quite sinister at times, it's good to be reminded that roses have thorns. The last thing is that I'm glad Elizabeth and Emily becames closer, and that the Dissapointed House, is no longer that. END

I didn't like this book as much as the first two in the trilogy because of three reasons. The first one is that Emily has grown up, and like most of us had lost all her childish charms and ambitions, and now is just anither down to earth grown up, not that charming, amusing and odd little child. The second reason is that is seems that the author had very little to add about Emily, mainly Emily finding a proper husband and her growing writing career, and think these two subjects would have filled a much shorter book. Things would not have been that bad if the ending hadn't been so lame, which is my third and most important reason for not liking this book: Teddy just shows up one day out od nowhere and with no special and logical reason, whistles his three notes, and everything is fine between himself and Emily. This seems like the natural ending of this trilogy, but the way it is brought about is not!

Emily's Quest is an excellent conclusion to the Emily trilogy. I have read the others, but they just don't have the power to move you as much as this book did. The previous books are more light and happy, but this is my favorite! It is not too sad, it is just right. I was surprised that I felt every feeling of Emily's as I read the book. When Emily was sad, I was sad and when Emily was happy, I was very happy!
This is an amazing book that you won't want to miss! Of course, I would suggest reading the first two books before this one to get the background and to understand Emily more. Anyone who liked the Anne series will like this book. I don't know, but maybe I liked this book more than any Anne book, just maybe. I recommmend this to people ages 13 and up (to 113). It is a very satisfying book that will lewave you feeling happy (At least that's what I thought). :)

I've had the book for about a year now and this is a book that is hard to stop reading. I think that one of the best parts in the book was when Teddy came back to New Moon, when Emily was dreaming at her window an the wistled to her. I found the part where Ilse came to New Moon soon after Ilse jilted Teddy and "consulted" her list of things that Emily would say. This book is one of my favorite book by Lucy Maud Montgomery and one of my favorite books that I have read in the past year, maybe even one of favorite books of all on the books that i have read in my life!

I finished reading this book in two days' time. Well, now I like the Emily series very very much. I know I like Anne too. She will always have a special place in my life..but Emily, she is so down to earth. At first, I thought I wouldn't like this book as much as the other two...coz it's too sad. I kept on thinking, how come LMM will let her own character give up writing! That was the one thing Emily loved to do all her life. Then when I got to chapter 10, I just couldn't leave my eyes from the book. I was so absorded that I thought I might be Emily Byrd Starr myself!!:p It *hurt* me as much as it did to Emily when I heard that my best friend Ilse (well..at that time i believe i were emily..i was TOO absorded) is going to marry the boy (Teddy) whom I love all my life!! The only boy/man whom I love and belong to!! It *broke* my heart when Teddy said in front of me that "the only one star I HATE is 'Vega of the Lyre'" (oh..teddy, do you still remember we have promsied to think of each other when we see this star!!) Oh..our promise..our dreams ..our Disappointed House!! (well..I just can't help myself ..tears just coming out of my eyes..like non-stop!!) I felt as if I myself, like Emily, have also lost a true friend and teacher when Mr. Carpenter died. Well..there is one place in the book that i feel really heart-warming though..that is when Aunt Elizabeth told Emily she wouldn't mind listening to Emily's "The Moral of the Rose". It's just so Murrayish! LOL! But I can sense the she is indeed very proud of Juliet's daughter. See how she put Emily's first book in her living room whenever there is a caller at New Moon! LOL!!!...She loves Emily. I never doubt that!! :0) well..as for the ending..I won't say a word here!I don't want to spoil the fun here! What I would say is, it gives us so much scope for the imagination! All in all, I love this book! Just can't help myself!
