Kurzbeschreibung

30. August 2012
In the second edition of Electronics for Guitarists author Denton Dailey teaches the basic theory of operation and design principles of analog guitar signal processing circuits and amplifiers. The design and operation of common effects circuits such as tone controls, preamps, phasers, flangers, envelope followers, distortion and overdrives are covered, as are both solid-state amplifiers and power supplies. Written primarily for the guitarist, this book balances coverage of theoretical analysis and design while providing many examples of practical experimental circuits. The main thrust of the material is analog circuitry, focusing on fundamental principles of transistors, integrated circuit and vacuum tube-based amplifier operation and theory, and operation of typical guitar signal processing effects circuits. Updated to the new edition include: New coverage of tone control circuits, MOSFETS and their applications as small-signal amplifiers, rail splitters and charge pumps, amplifiers using germanium transistors, and tube power amp design; Expanded coverage of numerous subjects such as vacuum tube power supplies, the digital oscilloscope, Darlington and Sziklai transistors, and signal spectra and transfer function symmetry; Additional examples of various circuits such as overdrive, distortion, chorus, delay, tremolo and auto-wah circuits as well as amplifier design Electronics for Guitarists is ideal for the musician or engineer interested in analog signal processing. The material is also useful to general electronics hobbyists, technologists and engineers with an interest in guitar and music-related electronics applications.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A solid reference for guitar techs who want to know more... 27. August 2012
Von L.A. Bud - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe|Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf
I bought this book last year when it came out in hardback. This is the best book of it's kind that I've seen out there. The new paperback 2nd edition should be in the reference library of every guitar/amp tech on the planet...especially at half the hardback price with 100+ extra pages. You don't have to be a math major to get through this book. While there are some functions/equations describing performance characteristics and design, what you mainly get from this book is a reference to understanding the how and why of the electronics related to guitars. It's written with enough detail for the electrical engineer in me, but isn't so bogged down in theory as to take away from it's focus...understanding guitar electronics...and all in one place. It's like one long "App Note" for guitar lovers. And this book isn't just for guitar techs. Guitarists who want to understand what's going on with their tone and make informed decisions on sound sculpturing would do well to comb through it's pages. Don't look for any digital stuff here, though. It's analog electronics in all it's tonal splendor.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Just an amazing book 7. März 2013
Von Nicholas Thompson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Covers the what and the why equally well, and is a fun read. The first edition was a little pricy, but this covers what you'd need to know if you want to get serious about making your own stuff.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Hands down. 29. Januar 2013
Von billykeith - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I have been playing guitar for 22 years and working in electronics for about 12. I went to a 2 year tech. school in Pittsburgh and loved learning. For the last 10 years I have done a lot of reading (Robert Paynter) and building. I will say that this book is hands down the best single book source for learning Amps, effects, filters and older tube stuff that you will find out there. Dailey is great at conveying complex ideas. I can't say enough about this book. This book is good for beginners as well as those with a solid foundation in electronics. Dailey like any good teacher seems be in the book business to help others learn and not to try to convince others of his intellect. Thank you Mr. Dailey, you rock.
