With practical chapters covering how to search data, extend your search, and go deep into cluster administration and search analysis, this book is perfect for those new and experienced with search servers.

In "ElasticSearch Server" you will learn how to revolutionize your website or application with faster, more accurate, and flexible search functionality. Starting with chapters on setting up your own ElasticSearch cluster and searching and extending your search parameters you will quickly be able to create a fast, scalable, and completely custom search solution.

Building on your knowledge further you will learn about ElasticSearch’s query API and become confident using powerful filtering and faceting capabilities. You will develop practical knowledge on how to make use of ElasticSearch’s near real-time capabilities and support for multi-tenancy.

April 2013
Von Michael
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

April 2014
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf

What this LEAVES out 17. Juli 2013
Von Gkk - Veröffentlicht auf
Look at this: [...]

I picked up this ONLY AVAILABLE book in the hope for getting an understanding into the workings of this <expletive> frustrating tool. However, it only gave me an illusion of knowing, and it didn't give me an insight on how the various things like query, facet, filter, term/terms, field/s etc work together and how we can combine them to get what we want. I was shocked to see the query supplied by that crazy geek who made elasticsearch in the stackoverflow thread above, and said, 'wow, I didn't know you could do that'. A benchmark of a good book is -- does it set you on your way so you can explore using the concepts learned and write your own stuff? And the answer to that question for this book is NO. I struggled for 4 weeks to get ONE itsy bitsy thing I would have written in an sql group by clause without a second thought and I became thoroughly skeptical of elasticsearch .. until I hit upon the url above. Now I dont feel that powerful with this book by my side. It wasn't any good to me, and wish someone would better this effort and soon

3.0 von 5 Sternen the only game in town 20. Juni 2013

much better than the online docs. but...... reads like a draft... miles wide, inches deep. poorly executed examples (layout, annotations, explanations). many basic concepts are poorly explained (or unexplained). Good overall coverage. Lacks coverage in important areas (some of the Java APIs, security, scoring)

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent introduction to ElasticSearch 14. April 2013
Von David - Veröffentlicht auf
Without a doubt the best introduction to ElasticSearch out there right now, with the possible exception of the $1500+ classes provided by ElasticSearch itself. $16 and 4 hours with this book has taught me more about ElasticSearch than 10+ hours of web searches and bad tutorials. The book is well organized both for reading cover-to-cover and as a reference when you need to do something specific. Bonus: you can get DRM free versions in multiple formats from the publisher's, PacktLib's, website.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great first Book on ES 9. April 2013
Von Bhaskar K. - Veröffentlicht auf
The most important thing is that this is the first and the only (AFAIK) book for ElasticSearch (ES), and the ES documentation on its website sucks.

The book is a very easy read, and mostly goes over all the ES stuff including installation / configuration / and the REST APIs.
The chapters are very well organized, and the book flows nicely from one chapter to another.

The author has give enough attention to each aspect of ES, including, indexing, searching, advanced searching, and what's more, the author has a blog where he keeps adding info about stuff that got added to ES, after the book was published. e.g. the Book talks about ES 0.19/0.20 release, and the blog has lot more info about the upcoming 0.90/1.0 releases.

A few things I wish the author had covered in more details are
1) Core Lucene concepts. This is not a big deal for anyone who's coming from Lucene/Solr, but anyone entering in to search for the fisttime may have a hard time grasping at some concepts.
2) Comparison to Solr. as Solr and ES are the two biggest players in this field, a detailed subjective as well as a superficial objective comparison would have been nice.
3) Some thoughts on advanced deployment scenarios, especially production clusters, rolling upgrades, backups, monitoring etc would have been helpful as well.

Overall thought, if you're using ES, or even learning on your own, this is an absolute must have book.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Good choice if you know Solr and want more from search 19. Mai 2013
Von drizzt - Veröffentlicht auf
This book is a very good tool to understand how to face with Elasticsearch: from basic concepts (installation, configuration, etc.) to most advanced ones (index manipulation, data storing, etc.). It is correlated with many useful examples and it is suitable from beginners and even from whom has already experience with this search engine.
It's also up-to-date with last Elasticsearch features (0.90.0 by now), similarity API included.
Important suggestion: if you are new to Lucene based search engines, with no experience at all with Solr or any of them, you'll probably need a second manual, more specific. Full-text search is really a complex matter to tackle with no enough skills.
