With 'The Ecology of Commerce', Hawken probably created one of the most convincing books to go green. As a reader it is fairly hard not to agree with his substantive argument that the time of a new way to practice business and live our lives has arrived. Although almost a bit one-sided, Hawken's line of argument is more than sense-making. He starts a lively discussion about how the future should look like regarding the interplay between business and environment.
Although this book provides plenty of indirect advices for business professionals to convince doubters from green business practices, it is not written as a practical guide. It is written as a manifesto and does not give the reader much choice not to believe in it. Why should it? Its arguments pro environmentalism are flawless.
In case you are not convinced of the green hype that is making its way into daily practices at the moment, or you need a confirmation that what you feel is the right thing to do, read this book. It will not only overwhelm you with arguments to live more environmental friendly, but it will also animate you to spread Hawken's word, convince friends and family, and make this planet greener.
