Kurzbeschreibung

A literary phenomenon, Jean M. Auel’s prehistoric odyssey is one of the best-loved sagas of our time. Employing meticulous research and the consummate artistry of a master storyteller, Auel paints a vivid panorama of the dawn of modern humans. Through Ayla, an orphaned girl who grows into a beautiful and courageous young woman, we are swept up in the harsh and beautiful Ice Age world, home to the Clan of the Cave Bear. Now, for the first time, all six novels in the Earth’s Children® series are available in one convenient eBook bundle:

THE CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR
THE VALLEY OF HORSES
THE MAMMOTH HUNTERS
THE PLAINS OF PASSAGE
THE SHELTERS OF STONE
THE LAND OF PAINTED CAVES

A natural disaster leaves a young girl wandering alone in an unfamiliar and dangerous land until she is found by a woman of the Clan, people very different from her own kind. To them, blond, blue-eyed Ayla looks peculiar and ugly—she is one of the Others, those who have moved into their ancient homeland; but Iza cannot leave the girl to die and takes her with them. Iza and Creb, the old Mog-ur, grow to love her, and as Ayla learns the ways of the Clan and Iza’s way of healing, most come to accept her. But the brutal and proud youth who is destined to become the Clan’s next leader sees Ayla’s differences as a threat to his authority. He develops a deep and abiding hatred for the strange girl of the Others who lives in their midst, and is determined to get his revenge.

Praise for the Earth’s Children® series

“Auel is a highly imaginative writer. She humanizes prehistory and gives it immediacy and clarity.”The New York Times Book Review

“Storytelling in the grand tradition . . . From the violent panorama of spring on the steppes to musicians jamming on a mammoth-bone marimba, Auel’s books are a stunning example of world building. They join the short list of books, like James Clavell’s Shogun and Frank Herbert’s Dune, that depict exotic societies so vividly that readers almost regard them as ‘survival manuals.’ ”Vogue

“Jean Auel has established herself as one of our premier storytellers. . . . Her narrative skill is supreme.”Chicago Tribune

“Pure entertainment at its sublime, wholly exhilarating best.”Los Angeles Times

“Readers who fell in love with little Ayla will no doubt revel in her prehistoric womanhood.”People

“Lively and interesting, enhanced greatly by the vividly colored backdrop of early humanity . . . Auel is a prodigious researcher.”The Washington Post Book World

“Among modern epic spinners, Auel has few peers. . . . She deftly creates a whole world, giving a sense of the origins of class, ethnic, and cultural differences that alternately divide and fascinate us today.”Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

3.0 von 5 Sternen Interesting but too long and slow 18. August 2013

Nice story, well researched but all the repetitions of past events (in each new book anew) makes it painfull towards the end and slows the whole story down.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Reading it again... 30. April 2013
Von rdumas13 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I first read The Clan of the Cave Bear as a young teenager who was bored during summer vacation. I also had a pension for reading very thick books because I thought they had more character development. I loved it and have read it many times since that summer. I've also read the last book this year while I had foot surgery and I was basically bed-ridden for 3 wks. I do love the characters and how the author shows the progression of how things were possibly figured out (ie taming animals, the spear thrower, fire-rocks, etc) by early humans. I also love the spiritualism and rituals. I would only say that if you read the series from book 1 to the last, what gets tiresome is the repeated references and explanations of every single plant, herb and medicine over and over and over again. I also grew tired of the endless descriptions of the caves and that song that was sung in the last book, the Land of the Painted Caves. I actually got to where I skipped over it totally. It was almost like the author was trying to fulfill a total page number quota by using this song to fill up page after page. I use to do that in college for 10 page essays.
I was also disappointed that Jondalar did the unthinkable and hurt Ayala so badly. I'm trying not to give away the only actual contrived drama in the last book. All in all, they are good reads. They make the mind think about what it could have been like, if people like Jondalar and Ayala had ever lived. Just skip over the parts that make you slightly narcoleptic.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Beyond Belief 12. September 2013
Von W. A. Bruce - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Years ago I started with the first 2 books on audio tapes read by Ms. Auel, and recently thought I'd buy the Kindle 6-pack to read over vacation. While the story is fabulous, the characters and actions totally believable due to the obviously high level of in-depth research, and the early development of culture entirely plausible, I made only one basic mistake...I read all 6 books back-to-back and thus experienced a high degree of reiteration regarding actions and concepts. This repetitiveness distracted from my enjoyment - but then that was my fault for being such a glutton for the next phase in the development of this remarkable story. There is but one criticism that I can make, and that is that the last part of the book was anything but satisfying: it just ended. Suddenly. As if the author struggled for a graceful exit after having spent so many years developing the story. Overall, well done!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Favorite Series of all! 28. Juni 2013

The details around the time and place are incredible. They add to the realism and you can almost smell and taste everything. It is both a blessing and a curse. Sometimes it gets in the way and it feels like too much detail. However you learn to skim-over when you want to, so it is not that big of an issue. The story around Ayla and Jondalar is amazing! I am rereading the series for the 3rd time and each time I find new things (which I never would have believed because I thought I got it right the first time). My kids (teenagers) would love these books, and someday I will let them enjoy reading them (Ayla's and Jondalar's love life is a little to detailed for young readers IMO).

Make sure you have time, because once you start, you can't stop!

I have read the first 5 books in the past and am so glad I could get the 6th on Kindle. I have re-read the first two and about midway of the Mammoth Hunters - these books are awesome and the research she has done has had me checking things out to see how they work - all I can say is Awesome...even watched the Clan of the Cave Bears on PC - not as good as the book though.

I love this series of books. Now that I own it for my kindle, I can donate my paper copies/hardback copies to the library when I move for my new teaching job. This is a really incredible series and very well written!
