Synopsis

Before science, before history, there was an Age of Legend - and Legends never truly die...For years, the Name-givers - those races gifted with the ability to Name, and shape the very magic of the world - were forced to live in underground citadels known as kaers, while malevolent creatures from astral space, so terrible they could only be called Horrors, ravaged their world. The time of hiding has passed. Now, the Name-givers have returned, and reclaimed their place in the world. The fight is not over. The Horrors still linger in this world - in the cities and ruins lost during the Scourge. A corrupt Empire seeks to reclaim its provinces, and Name-givers with dark ambitions seek to set themselves up as the new power in the absence of the Empire. In this Age of Legend, only heroes can stand against the soul-rending power of the Horrors, and the dark machinations of those corrupt with power. Become these brave souls, and role-play in 'Earthdawn', the Age of Legends.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fantastic gaming experience. 8. September 2009
Von HedgeMage - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I've been playing Earthdawn since the FASA days, and I have to say that the LRGames revisions are a *huge* improvement. They keep Earthdawn's step system, while making character generation far more straightforward (I no longer have to walk new players through step-by-step, the book does a great job).

If you are new to Earthdawn, be sure to check out the two sample chapters from this book available as free PDFs on [...]. They give a pretty good feel for the world. The system is not another tired old d20 -- it takes a little getting used to, but once you do, it's a lot easier on the GM because it is more flexible. The system encourages role-play more than anything I've ever played. The experience formula takes into account more than just how many monsters are killed, and the magic system is much more involved than other tabeltop RPGs I've played.
3.0 von 5 Sternen If You Prefer 2nd Ed. Rules, Here It Is 3. Juli 2012

In my opinion the only reason to buy this book is if you prefer the rules of 2nd Ed. Earthdawn, which some do. The character sheets for one thing are well thought out. As for the book itself, the cover art is amateur and the binding is a joke, so be prepared for pages coming loose over time in the hard or soft cover, as I know many who have this problem with the book. If you can look over these weaknesses and want the 2nd rules then you got it.

2.0 von 5 Sternen A step down... 24. August 2007
Von cox - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
There are 3 versions of earthdawn: Earthdawn published by FASA, Earthdawn Second Edition published by Living Room Games, and Earthdawn Classic published by Redbrick. This is the Second edition book.

I own all three, and I think that this one is the weakest. If you have the original earthdawn game, look at the cover. Gorgeous, isn't it? Now look at the cover of Second Edition. Gakk! LRG may have actually improved the rules of the game. I don't really care/kaer. For some reason, they decided that the art of Earthdawn needed to be replaced so they switched it out for this "anime" trash. I use quotes because it isn't even anime, its just stupid.

Now to be fair, Redbrick's version has cover art that's not much better. But in any case, I can't reccomend this book. They kept all of the annoying historical anomalies (splitting the rules into a main book and a companion, etc) and interjected their own view of events quite strongly (e.g., the barsaive at war and barsaive in chaos adventures seem amateurish compared to the FASA products). It feels like they are more interested in writing about their own Earthdawn campaign than describing the beautiful world brought to us by FASA.

Redbrick is better.
