4.0 von 5 Sternen Open your heart for a little fun and a lot of reward. 16. September 2014
Von Ryan J. Dejonghe - Veröffentlicht auf
You may not raise the dead, but there's always something miraculous to observe. As Einstein put it, ""There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." Pam Grout has been making a name for herself, helping us to find these miracles.

Grout returns to E-CUBED (or, E3) with the same structure as before: stories and experiments. This time around you won't be moving coat hangers with your mind, but you will be speaking to cactuses, moving wildly to music, and leaving five-dollar bills on park benches--all for good cause. Really. As Einstein said above, if you look for it, it is all around you. Grout helps point this out.

Most people will come to E-CUBED for the experiments (and yes, getting you off Facebook and talking to a cactus is one such experiment), but the stories help set the stage. I wish these stories were more congruent or that they flowed into each other, but hey, the scattering has a piece of something for everyone. My preference also gravitates toward science and footnotes, but what Grout shares has personality and warmth.

Yes, Grout may seem a bit...shall we say...flamboyant some of the time. However, if you go for the ride the end result may surprise you. You'll put away the news in exchange for the outdoors; you'll give more of "you" to others; you'll love more of the people you haven't; you'll change your negative thoughts that you believe about yourself; and, you'll catch a glimpse of the sermon from "the river of life". Wild? Yes! Worthwhile? Most definitely.

If you've taken this ride before or coming along for the first time, open your heart for a little fun and a lot of reward.

Thanks Hay House for providing this for me to review.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Read with a healthy skepticism and a healthy openness 29. September 2014
Von Tracy Marks - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Taschenbuch|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
E-CUBED is a "new age" book, reflecting the same "You create your own reality" view as the book, THE SECRET. Author Pam Grout presents principles from what she calls the outdated worldview #1, and the alternative, more life-affirming principles of worldview #2. She also presents nine behavioral experiments to test the validity of those principles.

I take issue with many of them, but also strongly believe in the validity of others. In this review, I will first express my skepticism in regard to some of her assumptions (explaining my reasons), before noting the facets of her book which I believe have value and for some readers, are worth reading.

Some of the principles she presents are: "There is nothing to fear," " Everybody gets a happy ending," "There is no reason to struggle," "Life emanates from me," "The only thing I have to do is follow my joy," and "Money isn't real".

When I was in my 20s and 30s, beginning in the late 1960s, I would have agreed with most of Pam Grout's assumptions. At that time I was beginning to lead "new age" workshops, and to write books which professed a "new age" philosophy. I also attempted to live by that philosophy, attracting some wonderful, synchronistic experiences and also near-catastrophes. Now I am aware of how naive and ungrounded I was - not preparing for the worst or taking necessary precautions to ensure my future wellbeing.

The corollary of "You create your own reality" is the belief that you choose the reality you experience and if what you intend and envision does not manifest, then you are failing to believe deeply enough or to apply the principles effectively.

Bull. I do not believe that my professional pianist aunt chose to have seven fingers cut off in a car accident caused by a drunken driver the week before her first international concert tour, which she wanted more than anything. I do not believe that my mother who had had after-death experiences, had deep faith in the next world and carried her living will around in her wallet, chose to be kept alive on half a machine for six months by doctors who ignored her living will - the hospital collected her $6 million worth of supplemental insurance and let her die when her insurance ran out. I do not believe that despite years of affirmations and healing practices, that I chose to suffer from a chronic illness for forty years.

Men don't usually choose to be killed in war; women don't choose to be raped. Bad things happen to good people, often through new fault of their own. And spending hours a day praying and envisioning your life dream is no guarantee that it will manifest. (But it certainly is likely to increase the odds of your being able to manifest it, provided you do more than just envision it.)

Pam Grout's "worldview 2" is based upon unlimited abundance, wish fulfillment, blind optimism and goodness in contrast to a bleak "worldview 1" which assumes a hostile dog-eat-dog universe of constant struggle, where work is a necessary evil. Personally, I don't buy either view. There is a middle way between blind optimism and unrelenting pessimism. It's called realism.

Within the worldview of realism, we have some ability to manifest or attract what we seek, and our beliefs and thoughts do influence reality. But limitation is real, obstacles (internal and external) are real, and (on the earth plane), money is real as well --- and if you act as if it isn't, you'll create a lot of difficulties for yourself. I've known several "new age" people who operated on the principle of an abundant universe that they could trust to fund their life purpose. Both went bankrupt and lost their homes. The first also lost his marriage. The second committed suicide. There is no substitute for grounding in physical reality.

So far I've presented some principles discussed by Pam Grout and my reasons for being skeptical - and encouraging you to be skeptical - in regard to some of them. As a deeply spiritual person, I on the other hand affirm other principles that she presents.. Some of them are: ""There is an invisible energy force field of infinite possibilities," "You impact that field," "Whatever you focus on expands," "Your thoughts and consciousness impact matter" (Note: "impact" not "create"), "You are connected to everyone and everything in the universe," "My worthiness is not at stake," and "God is state of being, a loving energy that flows through me."

There are a few life-expanding personal experiments in this book. There are also many gems of wisdom. For example: "If we want to create more energy and therefore more 'bandwidth' for a joyful life, we must being to pay attention to things that matter. And let go of all the things that don't."

In short, E-CUBED is a mixed bag. If you read it, I suggest maintaining a healthy skepticism but also a healthy openness. You don't have to agree with it all or debunk it all, although you may be tempted to take one stand or the other. Life is neither black and white, nor either/or. There is a middle way.

2.0 von 5 Sternen It came across as just another book trying to make a buck on the law of attraction movement 10. Oktober 2014

E3 is a follow up to Pam Grout's E2 book (which was originally called God Doesn't Have Bad Hair Days). E3 mentions a lot of the principles of the law of attraction and quantum physics. And it was saturated in a cool style like it's targeted to young teenagers. Good humor is great, but after Alby Einstein I found that it was more irritating that funny.

The author also presents the new world view, such as I create the world with my thoughts..., what I think is for the most part irrelevant, I already have everything I could ever want or need, and everybody gets a happy ending. Then on page 109 the author says that nothing is universal. She also says that we are the creators of our reality. So I was wondering why she created the reality where her laptop crashed and she lost the Chicken Soup book that she was writing. Maybe the author is unfamiliar with a corollary by Master Kuthumi that the collective can have an impact on your reality. For example have you ever been late because of a major traffic jam?

The author's coverage of the law of attraction and quantum physics can sometimes be rather shallow. The author talks about the old habits and beliefs that are buried in our subconscious that prevent us from being happy and manifesting our dreams. But there are not a lot of recommendations for clearing your subconscious--unless you find the Boogie-Woogie exercise and Simon Cowell exercise sufficient in that regard.

Here is a summary of the 9 experiments in E3. Note that most are intended to be done for 3 days or over 3 days:
1. Boogie-woogie: change the default setting in your pea brain and force some new beliefs into your psyche by raising your rusty fun antenna: When you wake up play LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," do 5 fist pumps in the air followed by the Harlem Shuffle, be grateful, and then put on a weird costume and go get coffee.
2. The red pill: get those manifesting muscles back in shape: Actively look for these 8 "possibilities": a belly laugh, a toy from your childhood, favorite high school song, number 222, beach ball, senior citizen in a fashionable hat, smile from a baby, billboard with a message for you.
3. Simon Cowell: reality is radically different depending on whom you talk to: take an old story like I suffer from depression and look for signs, fragments, or pottery shards of the opposite of that statement.
4. I'm loving and I know it: prove that you actually love everyone: Be a love bomber by distributing sticky notes, and appreciate the world's most annoying person, such as Rush Limbaugh.
5. Your new B.F.F.: money is nothing but energy: take a stack of $5 bills and leave them around for others to find. Record what comes back in 72 hours. Then look for pennies everywhere.
6. Nature vs news: all the important stuff is happening in your neighborhood, and whatever is on the news has no real relevance to your life: Replace whatever time you spend watching the news or on Facebook with a walk around your neighborhood. Once you get back into harmony with the universal energy, ending those famines in Africa will be a snap.
7. If you say so: send your words out in the direction you'd like your life to go: Refrain from complaining and pick a statement you've been saying for years, like my back is hurting, and play the opposite game. Act like you're Merryl Streep.
8. The placebo: prove that your beliefs and expectations are powerful and profound: Rub your hands together to generate heat, then hold them over a glass of water for 15 seconds, then drink the water to heal yourself.
9. Yabba-dabba-doo: ask for a glimpse of the other side, the inner sanctum: Ask the FP for a transcendent moment, when you look at yourself in the mirror say this is not who I really am, and notice the "Big Happy" in your body, then drop down into a neutral endless ocean of infinite possibilities.
10. Bonus expirement,: the marriage at Cana or it's time to get D-O-W-N: This is taken from Robert Peng's book The Master Key: Imagine a golden light going into a wineglass of water, add your qi and imagine the water turning to wine.

There's nothing in E3 about manifesting from a place of no thought, the higher mind, working with your chakras, the unified field, the Rays of Creation, etc etc. If you want some techniques for clearing the subconscious you might take a look at Mastering Manifestation: A Practical System For Achieving Absolutely Anything You Can Imagine. If you want to understand more about miracles and how to create them, take a look at The Physics of Miracles: Tapping in to the Field of Consciousness Potential.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Non believer and friend get two miracles two hours apart. 14. Oktober 2014

Format:Taschenbuch|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
When I started this book my major thought was EYE ROLL! Really, I have to review this book? But then I reminded myself I have to be objective and keep an open mind. So I decide to tell my best buddy and my Monday morning beach walking friend that I am reading this new agey book and we have to do the first exercise together. Keep in mind that she has a Ph.D. in Biology - pure scientist this one. The first exercise is that you are going to commit to waking up thinking that your miracle - something great is going to happen today. My friend, who is from Paris and HATES driving in Los Angeles has been subpoenaed to appear downtown at the court house today for a deposition. She did NOT want to do this and was having a fit about it between the driving and the extra arrangements for childcare. She said that she would expect that she would NOT have to do the subpoena. My thing was more open. Whatever miracle crosses my path today, I will know. Now I have been STRUGGGGGLING with my 6th grader. To the point of just about having an aneurysm nightly over the homework and the struggle and fighting about it.

Okay, miracles granted time. Seriously - two non believers here - I got a text at 3:30 this afternoon - my son's math tutor from last year wants to start with us again and will be here by 4:30 for IN HOUSE TUTORING. Unsolicited, unexpected, miracle. The weight of the world from one more night with this child painfully going through homework ad nauseum was going to kill me tonight and now that just slipped all away when she graced my door!!!

My phone starts going crazy with text messages - 5 pm tonight - my friend's subpoena is NOT HAPPENING!!

We have decided that we are going to do this EVERY day! It was a little weird and amazing and I am so grateful for all that transpired today. And remember - I DON'T EVEN BELIEVE in this stuff!!! So if I start believing and start practicing it daily - think of what a person could create in their lives!

Don't believe me - go ahead - try it - see what happens.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Not quite "there" yet... 29. September 2014

I spent the entire week end reading this book. I must say that the author's style of writing and handling of the subject matter is quite engaging and entertaining. She certainly has a great sense of humor, and I found that very enjoyable. Yet I still felt disappointed in her message and I'd like to explain why. I have not read her other books, however I do know people who have & have heard varying opinions about the content of her past "E Squared" books. I choose this book so that I could make up my own mind about the subject matter. I am someone who has had a great deal of influence in my life from the New Thought movement. I was raised this way, my great aunt was a friend of Ernest Holmes and she volunteered as a practitioner for the Religious Science church back in the early days of the church (I believe it was the 1930's). This was the only religion I ever knew. And with all of that in my past I found the book to be lacking in very fundamental ways.

The main premise of the author is that one's thought shapes "reality", and that we are indeed "one with" that reality. I wholeheartedly agree with this message! Yet what I find lacking in this and books/movies like the Secret, is that there is so much more to it than this. What is "reality"? Even science cannot tell us, we end up with more questions than answers as we dive further and further into the Great Mystery. The greatest sages of the past and present who have walked this Earth cannot (or choose not to) explain what it is. Their recommendation is to find out what's going on within you, rather than look only to the world of the material to find the answer.

New Thought began as a theology that allowed people to get in touch with the inner Divine aspect of themselves for the purpose of healing body, mind, and spirit. The emphasis on the teaching was NOT about what you can "get" from it, but about what you could "do" for others. This is a fundamental principle of New Thought teachings that prevents one from focusing entirely on "ego" wants vs. wants that bless the whole of humanity. If we've spent ANY time in a human body, we most likely have come to the realization that the ego aspect of ourselves often does not want what is good for itself in the long run and will typically choose the least conscious path as a resolution to a problem. Many religions (especially Eastern philosophy) view this issue as the desires of the "lower self". The originators of the New Thought movement recognized this as a barrier to self realization, and taught that our purpose as members of the human family is to SERVE others as well as ourselves. Unfortunately, many people today equate New Thought teachings with get rich quick schemes, and "pop spirituality" due to this misunderstanding. What was the true underlying goal of New Thought? Self Realization. As the monk Father Thomas Keating put it, "the beginning of the spiritual path is the realization that there IS a higher power, that there is an "Other". The second step is to try to become the Other. And finally, the realization that there is no Other. You and the Other are one." Understanding the very principles of cause & effect relationship(s), and our relationship with the "Ultimate Cause" is the focus, and always has been. This message is entirely lost in the teachings of many modern day authors & ministers. How sad!

Why is this message important? It is the principle of Divine Guidance (considered the most important aspect of worship) which holds the reins in keeping the ego in check, and finding joy, peace, harmony, and yes, abundance in our "seva" our willingness to share & be a blessing to the human family while pursuing our own path. We will find this guidance most helpful when life DOES NOT go our way, or we happen to find ourselves suffering through a loss or crisis. Yes, it happens to everyone, even those who are "busy creating their own reality". Suffering is not necessary, and yet would we have great inspiring individuals such as Mother Teresa, Mohandas Gandhi, and others who not only overcame their difficulties but inspired millions of other people to do the same in challenging the never ending "wants" of the lower self? So some level of challenge to the ego seems to be fundamental is the creation of a shining spirit, not just one who is really good at getting things.

This is the message that I find lacking. The focus of the book is on one aspect, and that is.... that's it's possible to "manifest stuff". Indeed it is! You will find that if you simply change your point of view about the events of your life (looking at it from the big picture, or how consciousness views it) that your difficulties have reaped enormous rewards in benefits you haven't discovered before. How freeing it is to realize you are NOT your stuff nor the events in your life! As Jesus so eloquently put it in Matthew 6:33 "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." THIS is the foundation of the New Thought movement, not about forever attempting to change the effects of our lives to suit a momentary desire, but to understand the ultimate cause, that which is our very self.

If your desire is simply to stop thinking of yourself in a helpless way, as feeling like a meaningless cog in a material machine this book may help you in overcoming that belief. Butterflies and other interesting things may appear to tell you otherwise. If your desire is to find the root cause of yourself and others, and the place where all intelligence and bliss in simply being alive is, I'd look elsewhere. Don't worry, you'll still have your "stuff". And your "stuff" will be tailored in such a way, by the Master of the universe to bring countless blessings... not based upon your subconscious & past (limited worldview) but based upon pure love and acceptance. I assure you, this is a view so far beyond this moment in time and who you think you are, you will be forever changed, and your presence will bless others in unimaginable ways. Beneath all the petty desires of the personality you will find a being that cannot simply be filled up with stuff and feel that life is complete. This is why many people self destruct after following a purely materialist path of acquiring "things" rather than acquiring wisdom first. As Proverbs 4:7 implores us, "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.". Do this, and you'll have all that you want and need as well as the wisdom to care for it mindfully.

I do wish the author well, and hope she will share a greater that can literally change the world in her upcoming books. Many will fall by the wayside if they are not careful in their choices. We find these warnings in the Bible & other spiritual writings for very good reasons. I have found this to be true in my own life, and in the lives of those I have counseled. Mainstream media is full of stories of people who fell apart after getting all that they supposedly wanted. Is the problem with wanting? No. The problem is with thinking that is the cause of Truth and joy in one's existence. Move beyond the superficial in your life and you'll find everything you need and so much more. Also, check out the term "selective attention" & "Broadbent's Model" regarding how we "magically" make things "appear".
