Kurzbeschreibung

What happened to Sadie Nettleton’s twin sister at the psychiatric hospital all those years ago?

Sadie Nettleton fled Slaughter Creek ten years ago, leaving behind the only home she’d ever known—and the only man she ever loved. Unable to cope with her sister's madness, or the terrible secret she and her sister share, Sadie swore never to return. But when her grandfather is murdered, and her sister charged with the crime, Sadie has no choice but to come back and face the ghosts of the past...

For Sheriff Jake Blackwood, time has not dimmed the love he felt for Sadie Nettleton—or the pain of her leaving. Now that she’s back, he’s determined to help her uncover the truth about her grandfather’s death and what happened to her sister at the asylum. As their investigation leads them deeper into a world of secrets, lies, and betrayal in Slaughter Creek, Sadie becomes the target of a madman who will do anything to keep the truth buried. Jake would give his life to protect Sadie. But can he again risk giving her his heart?

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Award-winning novelist Rita Herron’s lifelong love of books began at the tender age of eight, when she read her first Trixie Belden mystery. A former kindergarten teacher, professional storyteller, and children’s magazine contributor, she wrote nine books for Francine Pascal’s Sweet Valley Kids series before shifting her focus to the adult market. Since then she has written over sixty romance novels and loves penning dark romantic suspense tales, sexy romantic comedies, and family-friendly romances, especially those set in small Southern towns. A native of Milledgeville, Georgia, and a proud mother and grandmother, she lives just outside of Atlanta.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Psychological Thriller or Romance Murder Mystery? Maybe Both. Enjoy! 11. Dezember 2012
Von Tom McGee - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
Rita Herron is a seasoned author of more than 60 books; however, before "Dying to Tell: A Slaughter Creek Novel" I had never heard of her. I guess it is because she writes a lot of romance novels and that has never been a genre that I was much interested in.

That said, murder mysteries and suspense novels are my favorites and this novel has plenty of both.

Although the author repeats herself a lot in this thriller, I am not sure that it is not intentional. Each time it serves as kind of refreshment of the major elements of the story up to that point and it did make the book easy to follow.

It was hard for me to put this book down. I had to force myself to put this 376-page fast-page story of twists and turns down after 300 pages late last night. I could hardly wait to get my hands back on it today.

The authors writing skills and ability to keep the reader flipping suspense filled thought provoking pages was impressive.

At 3 years of age, twin sisters Sadie and Amelia Nettleton survived a single car accident that took the lives of their parents and placing them with their grandparents. Not long after that, Amelia's developed what everyone thought was an imaginary friend, but by the time she was 8, she developed an alternate personality believing she was Bessie. By 12 she developed a personality of a grown slutty woman, Viola and a couple years later a belligerent teenage boy, Skid.

Why Amelia and not Sadie? What dark secrets are they hiding that they are "Dying to Tell?"

In and out of treatment first at a free clinic then at a Sanitarium, Amelia was well enough to come home; however, something violent happened that changed their lives forever. Something caused Sadie to abandon the love of her life, Jake Blackwood in favor of college and a life in San Francisco as a Psychiatric counselor.

Some 10-years later, Sadie is on her way back to Tennessee after receiving a call notifying her that Amelia had violently murdered her grandfather, Walter and had been arrested and jailed by now Slaughter Creek Sheriff Jake Blackwood.

Events and secrets involving murderers, doctors, the Sanitarium Jakes missing father and other mentally disturbed individuals begin to intertwine and come to a head as Jake and Sadie investigate the connections. Bodies are beginning to mount in an otherwise sleepy boon dock town in the middle of nowhere bringing peril, destruction and danger to the main characters.

Dying to Tell was a satisfying and spellbinding tale with lots of suspense and with more than a little romance.

Enjoy!

3.0 von 5 Sternen a rough beginning, a better ending. 11. Januar 2013
Von CK - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

For as much as I wanted to love this book, it came up lacking for me. From the book description it had so many elements that I love: returning home, capturing the one that got away, a psychological thriller. I should have adored this book, but yet there were several aspects that kept me from truly enjoying it.

Just a little clarification, Dying to Tell is a psychological thriller that is more of a suspense book with romantic elements than a romantic suspense. For as much as the author brought out the initial emotions between the hero and heroine, they really didn't grow as a couple throughout the book. They worked on a platonic partner level without any heat, and then all of a sudden the flood gates opened and they were a couple.

Secondly, I had to suspend reality for a little bit. I'm no expert on police procedure, but I don't think that in real life a sheriff would ever let a family member investigate a murder with him, especially someone closely related to the suspect. I understand, it was needed to get the hero/heroine together, but at the same time, it was a big jump from reality.

Also, the beginning was a little rough for me due to the writing style. There were short scenes that switched the point of view frequently. It seemed choppy and confusing at times. Also, I felt like the author placed flashback scenes at inopportune moments that were supposed to bring depth, but felt more like a listing of back history.

There were some good points of the book. I like how the author focused on family and family dynamics. I like the pacing of the book, and the book did keep me guessing till the end.

1.0 von 5 Sternen A Non-Thrilling/Non-Suspenseful Novel 10. März 2013
Von Dianne E. Socci-Tetro - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
I thought that this might be an interesting book and since I had never read anything by this author I decided to give it a try. I love mystery/suspense and as an added bonus, this was supposed to be a romance too.

Unfortunately, there was nothing mysterious or romantic about this book. The mystery wasn't so much a mystery as it was a seemingly `oh poop' moment when the author couldn't seem to pin this on anyone else logically. Actually, the entire denouement seemed to be something that was just tacked on to end the book.

This book is more of an 'I'll tell you ' book rather than an 'I'll show you' book and that can be annoying at the best of times. This book wasn't even close to being interesting enough to hold my attention. I found myself being able to walk away and forget this book for days on end. Then once I got back to reading it I would remember just why I walked away in the first place.

The characters are shallow and annoying, the romance was nil, the story was told within the characters heads for the most part, the mystery flat and the suspense was not heart-pounding. The author seemed to have not done her research into police departments since nothing rang true. I also realized that the usage of a woman with multiple personalities as the possible murderer was a bit trite once I got into the book. It made it too easy to blame everything on her instead of a real criminal. Then when you finally do get to the end and see just what was going on...you just have to roll your eyes until they nearly fall out of your head.

I can suspend my disbelief for many things; after all, I love speculative fiction. However, with a book like this, I expect everything to be believable to a certain point. Unfortunately, I had to stretch myself too thin to be able to read this and loose myself in it.
I really do not believe that "fans of Tami Hoag and Karin Slaughter" will enjoy this novel.

I grew very tired of hearing how the main characters couldn't, wouldn't, shouldn't be together. And how much they wanted each other. It made the book drag.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Rita Herron is back! 25. Dezember 2012

Rita Herron was always an automatic buy for me. The last few years she has written books in a variety of genres. My personal favorite has always been the romantic suspense of which she is a master. This book has everything and more, it's a little dark and tragic but that's just part of a good mystery. The characters were well drawn and the story flowed smoothly. Once again this author has given me thrills, chils, romance and pure entertainment.
