I easily give this story five stars. It's a sequel to "Faith and Fidelity" and continues the romance of Evan and Matt. Told in an engaging style with wit and grace, it pulls you along and ultimately satisfies.
In "Faith and Fidelity", recent straight widow Evan and straight playboy Matt started out as kindred spirits both commiserating their lonely lives over weekly trips to the pub. But loneliness soon gave way to an incredible attraction and love for each other, and they moved into "happily ever after" with Matt joining Evan and his family of four kids. Happily ever after though still proved to be a ways off. Both men had spent all of their lives being straight, and while it threw Matt for a loop at first, he entered into the relationship just like he enters into everything.... giving it 1000% Evan, on the other hand, still doesn't see himself as being gay. Yes he's in love with a man. Yes he's intimate with said man. Yes they live together and said man helps raise Evan's kids. But gay? Surely not Evan! It's this hesitance to make that final acceptance that keeps Evan from getting too close to Matt when they're in public, and it's this hesitance, and his jealousy over Matt's and Jim Shea's one night stand, that gives them all sorts of problems.
As Matt is starting to fear that he's become the replacement for Sherri, Evan's late wife, Jim shows up in town with his new life partner, Griffen, and Evan is attacked by horrible jealousy that strains their relationship.
"Faith and Fidelity" left off with Matt moving into Evan's house, and this wisely picks up immediately afterward, with the last few pages of "Faith" begin the prologue in this story. While the first book left on a satisfying note, one still had to wonder how they would deal with the issues they'd surely encounter. This expands on that story and answers all of those questions. There is wit and humor, the characters are deep and wonderfully nuanced, and the setting and plot is interesting and engaging. There is ample material written around Jim and Griffen, whose story is told in "Love and Loyalty", and it's nice to see them furthered in their romance.
Sexy, fun, witty, romantic, engaging... it has everything needed for a sweet romantic tale. The only drawback is that I'd love to meet Matt and Evan, but they're just characters in a book. But in this book, they seem so much more.
