Kurzbeschreibung

Victorian Era England...

As far as rash decisions go, it was formidable. But Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne's will remains strong. If the only way to save her family's estate and reputation is by aiming a small pistol at the Duke of Calydon, then so be it. For Lady Jocelyn demands satisfaction - and she will have it at any cost. Even if it means demanding the hand of the intense and foreboding Duke himself...

But she's made the first move against a very dangerous opponent...

For Sebastian Thornton is no stripling to be trifled with. The lady has played her hand. Now it's his turn. For Sebastian is in need of a wife. And to find a wife with spirit and fire - even if she means to only marry for his money - would be a great prize indeed. And he intends to thoroughly take his pleasure with her... and demands his own satisfaction in return.

April 2014
Von Ali's Books - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding is a short and sweet, fast read for any of you historical romance lovers looking for a quick fix. I really would have almost put this in the novella category. But, as a result, don’t look for a deep plot or any big connection with the characters. There were times when I found Sebastian’s wit amusing, but there were also times when I felt the banter between Sebastian and Jocelyn was a little silly.

I also want to add that if you like books that are on the realistic side, then this wouldn’t be for you. But, it can be quite entertaining if that’s not a problem for you.

So, I give this one 3 stars. My review is short and sweet like the book. This is Stacy Reid’s debut novel, so I give her a thumbs up. It’s a great start, and I’ll look forward to what she brings next.

Warnings: language, sexual content
*I received a copy via NetGalley and Entangled:Scandalous in exchange for my honest review.*

2.0 von 5 Sternen DID I MISS SOMETHING? 10. Mai 2014
Von like2read - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Having checked out the other reviews, I am wondering if I read the same book as everyone else. I must have, because the characters' names in the other reviews are the same as those in the book I read.

But I found this a particularly emotionless book. Oh yes, the heroine did her thing from time to time, and the hero maintained his icy rage, but there was no emotional impact; no reach inside me and squeeze my guts with angst, hope, fear or passion. Even the sex scenes were rather cold-blooded and mechanical - but maybe this was because the hero was constantly conscious of his alter-ego's reaction to the heroine, and those reactions were so matter-of-factly stated, that they had as much impact on me as him saying he had a headache and sort of deadened me to any pizzazz that might have been when he got to bed the girl.

Or maybe it was the girl going to see her family straight after the wedding, then coming home to her new husband after dining with her family? That was truly weird and not at all romantic.

I found the inciting incident rather iffy. The heroine was no wilting miss who'd been compromised before Society. She had not even appeared in Society. A locket, gifted to her by the hero's brother, was presented as evidence of her being compromised by the hero's brother, but when kissed by the hero, he discovered she was an innocent.

But this man whom we are supposed to believe has always been determined not to marry, and who has a very low opinion of women, decides to marry a girl he's never clapped eyes (or anything else) on before, even though he's already deduced that she is untruthful, and all because she dared to confront him in his own home with a derringer. Okay - I decided to suspend my disbelief and read on.

The hero is no hero. He's a jerk with strong judgmental tendencies and an overblown sense of his own consequence. If anyone deserved the heroine, it was him because frankly, the girl's a manipulator who's goal in confronting the hero in the first place was to exaggerate a short-lived friendship with his brother and extort 200,000 pounds from the hero as recompense. Excuse me? Does this author have any idea at all of precisely how much two hundred thousand Great British pounds was in that era??? Even the hero's offer of one hundred thousand pounds was too ludicrous for words.

The heroine also has a father who did not reprimand her for her actions in seeking out the hero, or for managing to find herself marrying the man less than 24 hours after confronting him with aforementioned derringer. Dear papa just did not strike me as a realistic parent of that time.

I did not see any real character arc for either the hero or the heroine. She certainly did not grow, and our hero just did this about face at the end of the story with no evidence along the way that he was even capable of changing, let alone making any progress in doing so.

Then the first encounter between the hero and his long-estranged (and he knows how to maintain the Ice Age, this hero) mama was simply glossed over, even though it is his childhood perceptions of his mama that are the core of his internal conflict. That was a great big cop out, and the ending itself was a non-event.

The book cost me 87 cents, Even at half the price it still would have been over-priced

5.0 von 5 Sternen This was a great short read! 17. April 2014
Von Stormi Johnson - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Stacy Reid is off to a great start with her first novella The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding starts out with Jocelyn holding a derringer (not really a shotgun) at the Duke of Calydon and I just new this book was going to be a fun one. Jocelyn thinks she has the upper hand when she came barging into Sebastian’s office and demanding that he marry her, but the Duke of Calydon doesn’t do anything without good reason.

Sebastian never wanted to get married but because of some things that had come to light he knew he had too to produce and heir. So when Jocelyn came barging in with a gun he thought she would be perfect for the job. At first he thought he might want a prime and proper duchess but then Jocelyn came in with such spitfire that he changed his mind right thing and there.

Jocelyn need to marry well to protect her father’s estate and her siblings futures and the Duke of Calydon wasn’t her first choice but when she finds out some information she decides he will be the next best thing. Little did she know that he would end up being just who she wanted. If only the Duke can get past his past and let her into his heart.

The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding was just the short novella I was needing to get me out of my reading slump. It was fun, sensual and fast paced and even though it was short I thought it was just right. I know a lot of people don’t enjoy novella and sometimes I have found them to be to short but I really thought this one could hold it’s own.

Jocelyn, was a strong female character who took her life into her own hands when she pointed the gun at the Duke. It was a real gamble with her life but one she felt she had to do for her family. She continued to be head strong even after the wedding and was what Sebastian need in his life even if he wasn’t to sure about it at times. Sebastian was a little bit brooding, loving and very sexy.

I would recommend this novella to anyone who likes historical romances and needs that short read between heftier reads.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Promising Story 2. August 2014
Von poshpow - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Sebastian and Jocelyn had me torn. They each had qualities that I enjoyed – Jocelyn, strong and independently tenacious – Sebastian, loyal, sweet and full of honor. But each had their flaws that made the story a little less savory for my taste. Jocelyn was unbelievably impulsive, unnecessarily selfish. Her loyalty to her family and their well-being was commendable, but the way she went about ensuring their future was a tad bit ridiculous. And Sebastian? His sweet turned sour like night turns in to day. His Jekyll and Hyde personality switches were like a painful whiplash.

The story itself was promising. The romance was incredibly erotic and steamy. It was extremely passionate and fast paced. And while it was merely a novella, it felt as though it were so much more. Aside from the character flaws, I did enjoy the story. I just wish the hero and heroine had been a little more emotionally grounded and level-headed.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Lovely historical romance 3.5 stars 8. August 2014
Von Deborah - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
As far as reading goes historical romances were my first love but recently due mainly to the vast choice available and the ease of downloading on to my kindle I've been reading a wider range of books but it was good getting back in the past.
Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne is desperate, her father is impoverished and in danger of losing the family estate on top of which she has siblings with no decent future in sight unless she can do something, the something she decides to do is to hold a gun to the head of the Duke of Calydon. Now the Duke, Sebastian is not a man to be messed with but since he finds himself in need of an heir and therefore a wife things might work out alright.
While I enjoyed this book I admit I struggled at the beginning, it seemed so far-fetched but I'm glad I continued reading because I really enjoyed it, great characters and story, so in the end I loved it.
