clichéd, incongruous costume party novel 7. Februar 2012

Unlikeable, abusive heroes and tstl heroines are what happens when a novel tries to be character driven without having any character. In this book we have precisely that, backed up with a myriad of historical inaccuracies in setting, dress, behavior, speech, medical care etc. and inconsistencies and discrepancies in dialogue and storyline throughout the book.
I will only list a few of my biggest issues with this "novel", because I would have liked to have read a review like this before spending time reading it.

Character development:
Clearly suffering from an excess of testosterone, H's behavior towards "his love" is controlling, violent and obsessive, even when they are not "together". It looks a lot like domestic abuse in my opinion. Here is one of the many "red-flag" scenes.
" "Get up" Jake yelled at Ana. She had never seen this side of Jake before . She realized she stayed still a moment too long when Jake came over, grabbed her by the arm, and yanked her forward. Ana gave a yelp of pain, She was stunned and nearly tripped over herself as...[he dragged her upstairs]"
I can forgive a small amount of jerk behavior in a historical romance ONLY if A. it takes up less than a quarter of the book B. he realizes he is stupid and suffers for it AND C. does some heavy duty groveling. In this book, none of these things happen. There is the token apology towards the end, but .."too little, too late!" This leads me to my second point. I couldn't like Ana for craving, enjoying and accepting the H's unacceptable behavior. I alternated between pitying her and hating her.
Implausibility
H's best friend "Eliza wanted thrills like gambling and clubbing"...... unmarried gentlewoman in the mid 1800's? I don't think so.
A duchess visiting a Dr.'s office to confirm pregnancy in mid 1800's ? For that matter, she somehow suffers a miscarriage at around 8-12 wks while unconscious and though everyone around her knows, she somehow wakes up and doesn't figure out anything is wrong?

The lovely cover was wasted on this book.

I never read a book is so poorly written, sentences are chopped ,typo every where, even the characters' emotional development are ridiculously unreal. I don't think the author has any knowledges of this period history background. I delete it instantly! Not even worth one star!

Although I enjoyed the story, the book itself was very poorly written. The grammatical errors were endless. The tense would change between past, present and future not only multiple times in a paragraph, but in the same sentence as well. There were frequent issues with the wrong word being used. Added together, it made reading the book somewhat disjointed. Perhaps employing an editor would be a good move.
