First off, I would like to mention that I am absolutely not complacent in my reviews and I apologize if this sounds like a commercial. I own a fairly sizable collection of books about the Ardennes and reading this one was for me the next closest thing to actually watching footage of the events as they could have unfolded in these hours of Dec. 1944. I have been completely astonished by the quality of this book and must say it is one of these pieces of work that you will cherish in your library for long years to come. It is basically my new reference for KG Peiper.
What you will find:
-Detailed accounts -by the hours- of KG Peiper's engagements, with many cross referenced testimonials (the notes are outstanding!)
-a collection of very high quality pictures, most of them seen for the first time
-two color plates of sdkfz 251 and one of a Panther in "hard edge" camouflage
-High quality color pictures of the locations as they are now in parallel to the B&W period ones
-In detail study of the composition of KG Peiper backed up by extensive research
-History of individual tanks (as many as the authors could trace), +15?
-Clear and easy to read tactical maps with the position and progress of individual companies
While Mr Pallud's book Battle of the Bulge: Then and Now has set a reference that is hard to surpass, Duel in the mist 2, benefits from all the latest research on Kampfgruppe Peiper, the advantages of the newest developments in modern printing, the experience of writers who truly know what people with an interest in KG Peiper are looking for.
If you are a modeler: you will probably have the latest information to paint (or interpret) most of the Panthers in KG Peiper
If you are a wargamer: you will have more than enough information to easily set up simulations and scenarios to refight the engagements
If you are an historian: you will have the sum of the best known public information -in an easy to read format- about KG Peiper concentrated all in one place
An excellent work of passion, dedication and professionalism by individuals who know who their readers are.
Highly recommended
