Produktbeschreibungen

From Publishers Weekly

Setting her story in Salvation, N.C., Phillips adeptly develops the theme of love's healing power. Broke and desperate to provide a better life for her son, gutsy Rachel Stone ends up in Salvation when her car breaks down. She knows the place?even worse, they know her as the widow of G. Dwayne Snopes, a televangelist who fled stealing millions. Luckily, Gabe Bonner, who owns a drive-in theater where Rachel asks for work, seems to be the only person who doesn't recognize her right off. Rachel's proud mettle distracts Gabe from the grief of his own tragic loss, but enemies strike out at Rachel, while Gabe's brothers mount a family defense against the gold-digging widow. Phillips (Heaven, Texas) digs deep to expose weaknesses and strengths in the psyche and faith of her characters. The result is a book that is touching, funny, sexy and humane.

5.0 von 5 Sternen "Feel Good" book of all time 14. Juli 2000
Von "vonny"
Format:Taschenbuch
Open DREAM A LITTLE DREAM and visit Salvation, NC where the famous Bonner family resides. Get in a little deeper and get to know Heartbreak Mountain, which is the heart of the Bonner Family. Read more and get hooked on Dream A Little Dream, the story of Gabe Bonner and Rachel Stone.
The Bonner brothers have always been close, looking out for each other. When Rachel Stone's car breaks down and is stuck in Salvation, they think she's not good news and try to get her to leave. But they're not the only ones who do, the people of Salvation have decided to blame all their problems on her. Because she was married to a televangelist who played them all for fools.
Most importantly, Gabe wants Rachel and her 5 year old son gone too. He's grieving over the death of his wife and son and doesn't want to feel anything again.
However, Rachel is broke and her luck had just run out. And she was not going to give up the only hope she has of securing her son's future. As for the people and the Bonner brothers, she's never given up on a fight before.
Dream A Little Dream is about many things, the love of a mother for her son, the healing of a grieving heart, the struggle of a strong woman to make it, and how they teach each other to love again.
Susan Elizabeth Phillips is known for her funny and heartwarming dialogue, and Dream A Little Dream is no exception. However, it also has a deeper sense of feeling. She'll make ya laugh and cry, and at the end, make ya feel good all over!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Salvation lost and found?! 19. Februar 2006
Von "migaira"
Format:Taschenbuch
Not SEP's best, but if you came to like the Chicago Stars books and with them Cal Bonner from 'Nobody's baby but mine', you definitely can not miss this one because it deals with Cal's two brothers, Gabe and Ethan.
The main character this time is not a twenty-something year-old virgin (at least, but there is still a lot of room for feeling 'touched like the first time'), but Rachel Stone, the completely broken-down widow of a televangelist who financially and spiritually ruined and disappointed numerous people in 'Salvation', where the Bonner family lives. Coming back there to find the money she believes her husband had hidden somewhere, she is so desperately in the need of money that she 'forces' Gabe Bonner - oldest of the brothers and completely finished with life after the death of his wife and his son - to let her work for him at a broken drive-in movie-theater. Two desperate people, a young boy scared of everything in a world that has not shown him a lot of its brigther side... the story may begin.
In the background, there is also Kristy, reverend Ethan's secretary. Always nice and decent, she is hopelessly in love with this mixture of priest and Casanova and upon meeting Rachel begins to break out of her obedient adoration and learns to like herself.
No really new concepts, but enjoyably put together and it is nice to meet already known characters: The Bonner parents, Annie's house in the mountains, Cal and Jane... .
My main point of criticism is that Ethan and Kristy should have had their own book and enough room to tell their story. Like this, their relationship is not too convincing.

5.0 von 5 Sternen It makes you dream a little dream yourself! 3. September 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
Whow! I'm nearly speechless! This book is so typical SEP and yet it shows another side of this gifted author - the ability to look deep into the mystery of the human heart and create a wonderful story that will bring tears into your eyes. You'll find funny dialogues when you rather feel like crying and still it seems right somehow. Maybe it is this particular mixture which makes this book so touching without being too mushy. It's pretty easy to like Rachel - who wouldn't feel sympathy for someone who has gone through so much trouble. On the contrary, you rather feel a desire to shake all this cold indifference out of Gabe. Still, there's something about his despair which also makes you want to put your arms around him and give a little comfort. You just don't know whether you shall hate him for his attitude toward Rachel's son or feel sorry for him because of his own loss. I think this is the first time that I got really distracted from the love story itself in one of SEP's books. I think the most special thing about this particular book is the developing relationship between Gabe and Rachel's son. And there's something else which I must agree in with the other readers here. AS much as I liked Gabe's brother, Ethan, and Kristy, I think they should have had their own book. There were times when I couldn't really concentrate on their parts because I was much more interested in what would happen with Rachel, Gabe and Edward. Nevertheless, a GREAT book to read. A little advice maybe: Don't read it before going to bed because I guarantee you that you won't be able to switch off the light before you haven't read the end... 5.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful Read, well worth the money 16. Dezember 1999
Von D. Smith
Format:Taschenbuch
A very enjoyable read. The heroine(s) in this book take different paths but eventually reach their goals of self-discovery and fulfillment. Rachel must battle her past relationship with a corrupted pastor and a town's inability to offer forgiveness. Kirsty wages a war within herself to find the love of her life...by first loving herself. I loved the complex nature of the dialogs. Romance wasn't a melodramatic moment that left the reader wondering if that much syrupy conversation was safe to digest in one setting. Instead the romance between the males and females in the book took on a different level of caring and sensitivity. Themes that were handled with care, grace and humor: overlooking the beauty that is right beneath your nose, grieving the lost of a family, holding on to your faith, etc. It would seem with the many complexities and varied themes, this book would be a jumble of cliches. Instead it is a well written love story that I will keep in my list of treasured books. Although SEP has not been one of my favorite authors, this is definitely one of my favorite stories. Great job.
