I always get a little afraid when my favourite books get turned into films because the trend is for the film director to make mashed potatoes out of the book. The movie version gets re-written with more violence, naked flesh, glamorous stars....and by the end, you don't recognise the book anywhere in it. So I approached this movie being a little afraid....however I am glad to say that this version of Stevenson's book is EXCELLENT and John Hannah gives a top-class performance as Doctor Jekyll and his dark evil alter-ego, Mr Hyde. The director stayed true to the book which makes me very happy.
What amazed me was Hannah's perfect ability to switch roles very quickly. In several scenes, he went back and forward very fast from the peaceful sweet Jekyll to the evil murdering Hyde. You can see from his performance what a really talented actor he is (and he's Scottish like me, so he's perfect really!). The only thing that bugged me was that I spent the entire movie trying to work out where I had seen before the actor that plays Sir Danvers. I finally realised he played the private security man in "Titanic".
If you're a fan of the Jekyll and Hyde book, you'll LOVE this movie adaptation. Brilliant acting and an accurate story that Stevenson would have been proud of. Get this movie NOW!
