Doug & Mary is not going to reveal anything that has not already been published about the couple but is a fun fast paced book to read. It also captures the atmosphere of the silent era very well and the huge number of fans worldwide Doug & Mary had. Touches on the depressing times, the death of Douglas Fairbanks mother, Olive Thomas's death, Mary trying to keep brother Jack and sister Lottie productive and sober. Also Mary Pickford losing her beloved mother.
This book did go into Mary Pickfords desire to play Peter Pan and pushing for the part that ultimately went to Betty Bronson, this was fascinating to read about. The author also does a good job illustrating Doug & Marys decline from being Americas favorite couple and movie stars, the separation & divorce, and the death of Douglas Fairbanks. Also some excellent photographs, not all of them the typical stuff. A good book that's enjoyable to read.
