Dos mundos, a best-selling program for Introductory Spanish known for its exceptional progressive activities, made its name as an innovative pioneer in Beginning Spanish. Based on the communicative approach, Dos mundos stresses the use of engaging activities in a natural and spontaneous classroom atmosphere. The Actividades de comunicacion play a primary role in Dos mundos, since the core of the program is communication. These activities include fresh, practical ideas from the field of second-language teaching. In this research-based approach to learning language, the development of communicative language skills is the central goal, with formal grammar presentation and practice at the service of communication. To this end, the grammar explanations and exercises on the blue pages at the end of each chapter are designed for quick reference and ease of study. Additionally, cultural content is integrated throughout each chapter. The new Conozca section on each chapter opener gives an introduction of the country or region of focus, including information about holidays, foods, famous people, and important cities. Ventanas culturales readings focus on community, customs, and daily life while Ventanas al pasado readings focus on aspects of the social, cultural, or political history of the Spanish-speaking world The Enlace readings explore literature, music, and cinema, and the Lecturas present topics such as sports and leisure activities. Dos mundos is available with CENTRO a portal learning management system through which various digital components, including Quia(t) Workbooks and Laboratory Manuals and interactive e-books can be purchased. This McGraw-Hill exclusive system offers a single log-in authentication for students and a single gradebook for instructors.
Über den Autor
Magdalena Andrade received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine. She has taught elementary and intermediate Spanish at San Diego State, UC Irvine, and UC Riverside, where she worked as a coordinator of the Teaching Assistant program. Jeanne Egasse received her BA and MA in Spanish Linguistics from the University of California, Irvine. She has taught foreign language methodology courses and supervised teachers in training of foreign language methodology courses and ESOL at UC Irvine. She also serves as a consultant for local schools and universities on implementing the Natural Approach in the language classroom. Elias Miguel Munoz is a widely published prose writer and poet. He has a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Irvine, and has taught Spanish language and Latin American literature at the university level.l.

Buyer beware: if you're buying this book new at top dollar so you won't have to pay a separate $65 fee for the CENTRO system -- and chances are good that you are, since CENTRO allows a would-be language teacher to "call in" their class with no effort or grading at all -- prepare to be disappointed. For some reason, this brand-new book at $120 from Amazon comes keyless, even though the exact same book at your college bookstore contains one. So, there's absolutely no reason to buy one here, unless you get it used at a great price. Very, very disappointing, and just another example of college textbook publishers and book sellers ripping the public off, but at least you can learn from my mistake.

Amazon, stop combining reviews of different editions

the reviews listed under the 7th edition date all the way back to 1999, and maybe earlier? um, Amazon, this is not right. Each edition improves and it's hard for your customers to distinguish the reviews that should only be listed with previous editions. To other customers: be careful that you are only reading reviews for the edition that you are looking for.

Tracy Terrell was my advisor at the UCSD. That was when I got exposed to his book and his methodology (the Natural Approach). The book is geared around topics which makes it much more interesting and entertaining for all people involved to either learn or teach. It stresses communication and in a very interesting way. It's a very demanding methodology. You have to learn a lot of vocabulary (without words you cannot communicate). Grammar has its place, but it's not like in other methodologies where grammar is the central part.
It's fun to teach. The students enjoy it. It's the best way to learn Spanish or any other language. And the students end up being very fluent.
