Der Autor über sein Buch

Why did I write this book?
Because there are many who will take issue with the information in this book, let me state from the very beginning: I have nothing against hairstylists. In fact, just the opposite is true. I unconditionally encourage women to put their trust, tresses, and money in the hands of a talented and skilled hair stylist. I also want to state up front how wonderful I think many hair-care products really are. There are more great hair-care products than there are bad ones. After all this praise, you may now be wondering why, I would then write a book suggesting women should only go shopping for hair-care products with me instead of trusting the recommendations of their hairstylist or the companies making hair-care products? The answer is simple. You can't rely on the information you receive from your hairstylist or from the hair-care company making the products you are thinking of buying.

The fundamental fact is that most hair-care companies don't tell you the truth about their products! Almost all hair-care companies make bogus or misleading claims about what their products can and can't do, and that can hurt your hair as well as your pocketbook. Because of this industry-wide deceit, it is essential for every consumer to have more objective information so we don't have to waste our money or damage our hair. Keep in mind that, according to the FDA, hair care companies (and all cosmetics companies) don't have to prove any of their marketing claims!

What about hairstylists? After conducting hundreds of interviews, I found that most hairstylists were not intentionally trying to be misleading or purposely giving out wrong information about hair-care products. Unfortunately, most hairstylists are educated about hair care products by the very companies that make false or misleading claims about their hair-care products. Regrettably, fashion magazines only make misinformation worse. The majority of fashion reporters have their journalistic hands tied by the demands of the companies that advertise in the publications for which they write. And there is little impetus to change things. If a magazine depends on advertisers, it is simply prohibitive to tick off that vital source of revenue. All the news that's fit to print-as long as it's what the cosmetics industry wants the consumer to know. Inasmuch as I find the technical or editorial information in fashion magazines to be prejudiced by the power of the magazines' advertisers their pictorial essays regarding the latest hairstyles or hair-color trends are nothing less than brilliant. But that's not enough to make a product buying decision. Those pictures took hours of preparation with stylists, makeup artists, lighting directors, and photographers.

If you do decide to buy my book, by the time you are finished reading it I believe you will have a better understanding of just how crazy much of the hair-care information you are receiving-from many different sources-really is and how better to decide what to buy and what not to buy. -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine andere Ausgabe: Taschenbuch .

Folks, if you even care one iota about the hair on your head, or if you've ever been disappointed in the products you've bought to care for it (expensive or not), Paula will be your personal navigator through a sea of endelss choices! I already thought I knew a lot about caring for hair and what products to use from years of reading popular magazines like Cosmo and Allure. Finally, someone is setting the record straight and being honest in a way the hair care industry can't afford to be! Buy it, read it, live it! Your hair will be all the better for it, I promise!

Anyone who has hair should read this book. Not only does she include an extensive product analysis of what's on the market, including chemical analyses and descriptions on why certain chemicals are bad for the hair, she also extensively explains what hair "is," the cuticle and other parts, and how we damage it every day and can learn not to. She has suggestions on how to care for your hair for every type of hair, from thin to thick. She also describes which products on the market are the best buy for the money. Oh, yes, and don't listen to those hairdressers who tell you only salon products will do. "Uh, uh, uh," says Paula. A consumer reporter, you will find Paula is fair in her reviews and gives companies many a chance to reply to her criticism. She will save many women a lot of money and probably will cause change among the market as a whole.

This book is worth every penny - it helped me find the right drugstore & salon products. Hairstylists have convinced us that drugstore will do evil things to our hair. THeir favorite, "The PH is all wrong." This seemed to the case, because their products seemed to be better. What really happened is that I didn't choose the right drugstore products, because the labels are misleading and I had no idea what I should buy. This book educated me. It cuts through the hype and lists the right products for your hair type. Now I can buy the right drugstore and/or salon products. I save much money with drugstore shampoos and conditioners, but GET THE SAME RESULTS AS EXPENSIVE SALON PRODUCTS. Also, I stopped perming my hair because of the information I gained here. My hair is better than it has been for years! And the bonus, it saves me $300 a year or more.
