Inside this latest cartoon collection, Discover Your Inner Hermit Crab, more than 42 weeks of Sherman's Lagoon stand ready to transport readers to an imaginary lagoon near the South Pacific island of Kapupu in the Palauan archipelago of Micronesia, where a cast of coral-reef critters battles the encroachment of the hairless beach apes with their so-called civilized human ways.
Inhabitants of this nautical neighborhood include Sherman, an always-hungry-but-otherwise-typical great white shark; his witty, pearl-wearing wife, Megan; friendly Fillmore the turtle; geeky fish Ernest; macho hermit crab Hawthorne; and salty old Captain Quigley, who remains vengeful having lost his leg to Sherman.
Lauded for promoting marine conservation, Toomey has been described as a "breath of fresh water" by the Washington Post and designated as an Environmental Hero by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in recognition of his efforts to protect and preserve the nation's environment.
Über den Autor
Jim Toomey was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. He launched Sherman's Lagoon in 1991 and was picked up by Creators Syndicate later that year. An engineer, philosopher, surfer, scuba diver, and sailor, Toomey lives in Annapolis, Maryland, with his wife and daughter.

auch diesmal wieder viel los bei Sherman und seinen Freunden. Viel zu lachen, man kann das Buch immer wieder hervornehmen und sich freuen. Gehört in jede Sherman-Sammlung! Als Halter von Einsiedlerkrebsen kann ich nur sagen: sie sind genauso wie unser Hawthorne. Es gibt zB nichts aufregenderes, als ständig neue Schneckenhäuser anzuprobieren, um modisch a jour zu sein :o)

A Funny But Repetitive Collection

Sherman and the crew of Kapupu Lagoon from the comic strip "Sherman's Lagoon" return in DISCOVER YOUR INNER HERMIT CRAB, the 15th collection of "Sherman's Lagoon" comics. In this collection of strips Sherman attempts to overcome his fear of snakes, Hawthorne (the hermit crab) opens an optometrist office, the Lagoon Film Festival comes to the Lagoon, Kahuna turns Sherman and Ernest into humans so they can enter a sand-sculpting contest, Sherman finds a box of dog treats, Sherman and Megan go on vacation to Mexico, Fillmore opens a library, Sherman enters a 5K race, "Ocean's Got Talent" tapes in the lagoon, Sherman gives Megan a cursed pirate necklace, Sherman and Megan win the lottery, and Sherman and Megan have Kahuna turn them into humans so they can go on a cruise. In addition, through the use of satire, "Sherman's Lagoon" comments on important scientific theories (global warming--it's probably happening) and political events (the healthcare bill probably wasn't a good thing).
"Sherman's Lagoon" is a funny strip, but I found DISCOVER YOUR INNER HERMIT CRAB to be a little lackluster. Hawthorne is always trying out some new scam, but in this strip he opens an optometry office, a tattoo parlor, and a health insurance office. Characters in the strip go to Kahuna not once, not twice, but three times to be turned into humans. It was just a little bit too much of the same thing over and over. Of course, there are some new things that happened. The "Ocean's Got Talent" and the Lagoon Film Festival were nice storylines. But there were also some storylines that were really far-fetched, such as when Sherman and Megan win the lottery.

The fifteenth collection of the cartoons of the very popular newspaper comic: "Sherman's Lagoon" is of course another great one. This world of salty wetness revolves around a shark and his sidekick hermit crab. Other characters featured within the pages of this wonderful book keep the laughs flowing like a rip current. There is a sea turtle, a bear that loves to soak up the sun on the beach, assorted little fishes come and go as needed to keep things soggy and outrageous. Sherman, the leader of this pack, has a wife that does try to keep him grounded, and he makes the mistake of not following her sound advices more often than he should. Like a deepsea Ralph Kramden, our hero has an adventure or two during his travels down this watery path.
These guys twitter, dine in fine restraunts, buy lottery tickets, play football, travel the world, (Mexico, and even Idaho!) and get into all kinds of crazy situations of the humorous type. This is a great cartoon, that has a big heart, and you may even learn a little bit about ecology during your visit here to this undersea universe. I've always believed that it would be really tough to be a fish, but I didn't know that these scaled scoundrels had some much fun.

This is a great cartoon, that has a big heart, and you may even learn a little bit about ecology during your visit here to this undersea universe. I've always believed that it would be really tough to be a fish, but I didn't know that these scaled scoundrels had some much fun.
