Corel Painter has long been one of the most popular applications for creating digital art. Now in version X3, Corel Painter offers more artistic fun and capability than ever. Digital Painting Fundamentals With Corel Painter X3 offers step-by-step, full-color instruction for getting started with the digital art software and hardware that are the industry standard: Corel Painter and a Wacom[registered] graphics tablet. 5.0 von 5 Sternen New X3 clone workflow clearly explained, artistic ways to use brushes & art materials, all with great humor and joie de vivre! 16. November 2013
Von jeremy sutton - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Rhoda's jolly sense of humor shines through every page, while her twenty plus years of experience using Painter sets a solid foundation for the way she guides you through the program. On page 35 she efficiently and effectively summarizes in three sentences one of the most significant changes in the Painter X3 cloning workflow, that being the new Clone Source Image dialog window. That is typical of the way she makes things clear so succinctly that you don't even realize it was anything to think about!

She encourages experimentation and improvisation, such as on page 37 with "To Clone or Not to Clone?" I'm a huge fan of paper textures in Painter and loved the way she captures the roof top texture as a paper texture and then applies it back into the painting on page 65 - a great example of the power of making custom papers in Painter.

Liquid Inks are an under-appreciated brush category in Painter with their incredible graphic qualities and "Resist" variants that etch into your brush strokes in a very organic way. I really like Rhoda's example on page 179 of using Liquid Ink brushes with the Reverse-Out Composite Method (the equivalent of blending modes in Photoshop). I can't wait to try it out myself!!

All-in-all you'll enjoy this book whether you're starting off or, as in my case, a long time Painter user, and I am certain, no matter what, you'll get some useful tips, techniques and ideas from it, not mention a good chuckle throughout:-)

2.0 von 5 Sternen ok at best 16. Oktober 2013

I don't generally submit many reviews, but thought I should on this one. I preordered this book, as I have a lot of Painter instructional books and with the new release, I wanted to see what this author had for information concerning how to take advantage of the new features of Painter X3. The problem is that the book barely touches upon this sort of thing.

The books has its goods and bads. Basically it is a book that fits someone just learning painter, has an understanding of it on a basic level, but would like to learn more to get to a medium level. It does an ok job of that.

The artist and writer appears to be very involved in doing caricatures of people and is quite good at it. If the author had based a book around that and other art forms around that, it probably would have been very good. The problem is much of the other art she covered was not very good.... As someone who does a lot of work with Painter, I found myself really not liking much of the other work. It seemed very rushed, as if there was a deadline and she needed to just get something done to fill the pages. Also, many of the 230 pages seem to be filled with fodder. Many pages just have a bunch of scribbles that show what can be done if you scribble with a number of Painters brushes, but don't add anything. Other pages with instruction are sparse and seem to be spread out to fill more pages. It appears in order to be the first book out for Painter X3, it was rushed and really has little deeper knowledge, like you would expect from an expensive book.

Sorry to be such a downer on it, but I really did not get hardly anything out of this book and was definitely disappointed from that respect.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Inspiration for a photographer 5. Dezember 2013
Von CowboyInSF - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
As a photographer, Rhoda Draws book gives me the inspiration to convert my photography into painted works of art. Since I'm not artistically trained, or relatively skilled, I particularly found chapters 8-Life Drawing and 10-Special Projects useful since the examples lend themselves well to the photographs I take. My results may not come close (yet) to the talent Rhoda possesses, but her teaching style takes you by the hand from the basics forward, while offering plenty of encouragement. I even learned a few things about my Wacom tablet I never bothered to investigate. Point is, we ALL have creative potential waiting to be unleashed, only to be squashed from fear our creativity isn't good enough. Personally, "Corel Painter X3" has sparked that potential, removing the fear to try. Enjoy!

5.0 von 5 Sternen I am absolutely loving working through this guidebook! 28. Februar 2014

I am brand new to Painter and bought this book with hopes of not only becoming familiar with the program, but with the medium in general. I am about halfway through and I am so glad I made this purchase! Not only am I learning a lot about how the program itself works, with the requisite tips and tricks, but, as hoped, I am learning about digital painting in general, and I am experiencing a huge new found love! I can't wait to start applying the lessons to my own photos and paintings (there is a companion download of photos and palettes that come with the book to work through). This will definitely be a book I hold on to, to refer back to. I definitely appreciate the author's tone and writing style as well. Highly recommended!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Rhoda Knows her Stuff 24. Oktober 2013
Von Avid Reader - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I've been a long time user of Painter since the early days. That said, I'm a creature of routine and tend to use the same 3-4 tools over and over. I really appreciate reviews of the basics that Ms. Draws covers, including techniques for using tools I've never tried before. Her sense of humor, warmth and step by step technique are easy to follow and make the book a fun companion to the software. For a new Painter user, I imagine the software can be quite daunting with all of the millions of options, windows, sliders, etc. Reading this book makes you feel like you are being personally tutored by the author and is light and reassuring.
