"Harish Johari is Ayurveda's Renaissance man." (Yoga Journal)
"A fine introduction both to the science of Ayurveda and to its cuisine." (Hinduisim Today)
Named for the classical Indian god of medicine, Dhanwantari is a complete guide to living the Ayurvedic way. Chapters focus on diet, breathing, bathing, meditation, sleeping, exercising, medicine, jewellery and sex. By improving the health of their bodies and minds individuals will find that a greatly expanded breadth of life experiences open up.
This has been a wonderful book to read in this world of meat-obsessed diet and disease ridden lifestyles. I read it whenever possible to take a peak into the ancient wisdoms of the Hindu prophets who created these techniques for living. It's a fascinating, intelligent book, and a wake-up call to our modern (not always better) way of life.

Johari's text is pleasant and easy to read and his book gives a pretty good introduction for the subject. Johari as a "Renaissance man" knows how to combine Ayurveda with western knowledge for easier adoption without breaking the original meaning of this ancient Vedic science. It is only that the rest of book is only a list of diseases and their remedies etc., so there is not so much information on this book, only half of the book is worth reading. The book gives good example activities such as waking up early in the morning that you can try the next day and instantly see the results, how much such a lifestyle can alter your life. Get this book, if you want to know what the Ayurveda is all about.

When I turned 22, my gf gave me the book Dhanvantari. It was a good read. I learned what it was I had wanted from Ayurveda knowledge. The book contains more than basic material on doshas. It offers dietary suggestions for ailments in the book. How to do the alternate nostril breathing technique is included in the Dhanvantari book by Harish Johari.
