Kurzbeschreibung

While true, the story of the Belgariad could have been told in less than five books, I enjoyed stretching out the time with the characters. It's like family members, you don't necessarily need to be doing something all the time. Simply spending time with them is what you really enjoy. While the plot of Demon Lord of Karanda may not have been more than a sidetrack to lenghten Edding's contract to 5 books, those who enjoy the characters could have read through five more with great joy. At least there isn't just one plot within the story of Garion, just as there isn't just one plot in anyone's lives at any given time. The entire series is simply a joy to read.

First, I strongly recommend to read these stories in the correct order. That wood be The Belgariad I to V, The Mallorean I to V, Belgarath and Polgara. You don't have to read The Rivan Codex. That's some background material for the "hardcore" fan.
Then I must admit, I AM a hardcore fan. I read everything Eddings publishes, most of it numerous times. Yes, it't rather light reading, but if you want deep, you should stay with Tolstoi or whatever. I like my Fantasy entertaining and with a happy ending. And if you're into fantasy, the big Eddings sagas are a must!

With this volume you're right in the middle of the Mallorean. It keeps going with the usual adventure, laughter, some romance (though rather "clean") and some thrills. Of all the Eddings books, this is one of the gloomier ones concerning hard choices in hard times. Anyway, a good read as usual.

Although this is a very entertaining book, it clearly shows a problem Eddings had when writing it. He signed a contract for five books but had a plot for only 3-4 books. So he just broadens the plot with a pest and a horde of demons. I don't say that this stuff isn't interesting, but the intention of the author ("3 down, 2 to go") shows too much. Beside this, a marvellous book.
Maybe even a little bit too dark for Eddings' younger fans, though I liked it more that way.
