Have you ever wondered how a trial lawyer can sleep at night after helping a client he/she knows is guilty, beat the legal system? I have. Have you ever wondered how an attorney would feel if that same recently acquitted client kills a second time? Again, I have, and these very questions prompted me to write a dark legal/mystery/thriller about just such an attorney - I call it DEFENDING EVIL.

Travis Knight is an extraordinary Criminal Defense Attorney winning high profile cases in Atlanta. One of his recently acquitted clients kills again, which has Travis and his wife Julie, questioning what he does for a living. Travis is shaken to his core, but being a consummate lawyer, he is able to move past his feelings of guilt; Julie isn’t.

In a bizarre twist, a mysterious vigilante begins executing Travis’ clients after he wins them an acquittal. This righteous vigilante decides that the clients Travis is helping to put back into society are guilty, and don't deserve to live--the vigilante delivers ultimate justice.

The police only half-heartedly search for the vigilante-off the record, they are glad someone is cleaning-up after the hot-shot attorney.

The vigilante's attention turns to the source, and sends Travis an ultimatum--stop defending guilty clients or he will be the next to be executed. Risking his life, and his marriage, Travis refuses to be intimidated, and continues to defend clients accused of murder.

This story chronicles the labyrinth of high-speed twists and turns of a deadly cat-and-mouse game - a game that can end with only one winner.

    Buckle-up and enjoy the ride!

    Best Regards,

Charles Shea - Author of DEFENDING EVIL

5.0 von 5 Sternen I had a hard time putting this one down 9. März 2010

Ever wonder why attorneys represent guilty clients . . . I hate it when a review gives away the story so I'll be careful because this was a really enjoyable read with a great ending and I would have been sad if someone had "ruined it" for me. The story was well written and hard for me to put down (I kept sneeking reads at the office) and finished it in a day (OK, I read it a lot at the office because I HAD to find out what happened next). There were some great twists to the story that kept catching me by surprise and kept me turning pages (or rather clicking pages). The charaters were wonderfuly developed even if I didn't like all of them (its hard to like a murderer). Oh, and yes, it did answer the question of why some attorneys defend clients they know are guilty of terrible crimes. Enjoy!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good story, marred by bad attention to details 16. März 2010

I just finished reading "Defending Evil", and found the premise and story held my interest. It was, however, marred by the many grammatical errors, improper use of punctuation, improper word usage (loose instead of lose, many times). I kept thinking of Vince Flynn in an interview I watched him do one time - he told of how he couldn't spell worth a darn, so had an editor who went over what he wrote and put in the proper spelling and punctuation so his books would be readable. It seems Mr. Shea has a talent for writing, perhaps recruiting a person to proofread and correct is in order.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Good premise, but... 29. März 2010

Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf was a difficult read. The dialog was sometimes stilted and did not sound "real". There were many formatting issues, which further threw off my natural reading rhythm. The court room opening and closing arguments, along with the internal debates some of the characters were having, were probably the best written parts of the novel.

An admirable first try (I think this is the writer's first novel), as the author posed an interesting moral question and gave us a look at the opposing views, but an editor and proofreader would have made this a much better product.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Can we get an Proofreader, please? 12. Juni 2010

This book could have been really enjoyable, however, there were so many words spelled wrong, words left out, wrong words used (loose instead of lose about 100 times) that I had a difficult time reading this book. If Mr. Shea decides to place another book on Kindle - please, please, PLEASE have someone proofread it before putting it out there for the world to read. Subject matter and novel concept would have gotten 5 stars, but the rest caused it to be only one star.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Very Poorly Written 17. Juli 2010

The story line is okay, but the writing is very amateur. I want to be able to visualize the characters and the scenes. I want to get emotionally involved with the characters. I wasn't able to do that with this book. There is no character development. The conversation between characters is very limited. I don't know what they're thinking. I don't know what they're feeling. I don't know if they're good guys or bad guys. I can't picture any of the scenes. A little detail would be nice. The book is full of cliche (e.g., "Julie was naked under the covers and feeling frisky."). The flow is terrible (e.g., kneeling at a grave in the cemetery in one paragraph and at the office in the next). I read a lot, and this is the most poorly written book I've ever read. I suppose the book is worth the nominal fee I paid for it to be downloaded to my Kindle, but I would be really feel cheated if I had paid much more for this book.
