The writer shows potential. The rhyming format was fun for the kids, even if the rhythm wasn't perfect.
The editing was terrible, though. In fact, I think it's pretty safe to say that this book had never been seen by an editor at all. Take this sentence, for instance: "Now my Journey's over my swimming it is done." That should have been two sentences. And why on earth was "journey" capitalized?
As for the illustrations, they struck me as a collection of clip art that were cut and pasted from different sources -- they were colorful enough for children, but the writer must remember that the book is being read by parents as well, and if the parent can't stand the book, the book will probably never get read again.
I, for one, can't stand to open this book again. The editing and illustrations simply grate on me too much. There are other books that are just as entertaining to my kids and are not half as torturous to me, so I'll read those to my kids instead.
I'm giving it three stars because the author shows potential.
