Death of a Superhero is the fourth novel by Anthony McCarten. I bought the book based on a book review and was absolutely enthralled by the story from the very first page.
It's the story of 14-year-old Donald who has a very aggressive form of leukemia, draws his own comic sequels of Miracleman and seems indifferent about dying, at least to his parents. So they set him up with the famous psychologist Dr. King who has a very desperate private life and might be able to give Donald hope for life whereas Donald's main aim is not to die as a virgin.
Death of a Superhero combines elements of comic book, film script and novel writing and is therefore highly amusing to read. The characters are instantly lovable, each one with their own flaws, hopes and dreams and the story, as it is written is very touching. I went from laughing out loud moments to wanting to cry in just one page. A must read and a real page turner.
